  1. I think the acid test is the continued use, and return to use of defenders in the clay pits in st austell, and most other mining/ quarrying environments in the world. Imerys tried rangers and after 6 months went straight back to defender. FAR tougher, more reliable and cheaper on parts, plus the availability of parts is second to none. Snapping halfsghafts is ONLY down to driving like animals.
  2. Not heard of any probs with the latest defender Dave? No more so than the last ridiculous effort they brought out.
  3. Very sorry to hear that mate. Heres hoping that you get it back.
  4. The presidents analyst, old but a fave. James Coburn in top form.
  5. Dont argue with the assesor! I know a guy who had been climbing for a while and was quite good, went for his cs38, and on the test argued wih the assesor about using a pushing chain (top of the bar) when he shouldnt have, saying that he did it when working. he was failed.
  6. .....
  7. Did you know that the front diff of a ranger will fit inside that of a defender?
  8. My 88 has always doent this and is going strong TCD.
  9. That just sums it up Rob. Its that old see-saw thing between stihl and husky i reckon. As one gets really good, the other's quality seems to go down- I am starting to get back into husky saws after about 11 years of hating their build quality and ability to sieze!
  10. You tried getting the dog to wear them?
  11. I honestly think (especially after Stihl mentioned to a dealer that 'as long as it says stihl on it they will keep buying it') that the quality if stihl is falling rapidly. I am VERY unimpressed with the ms362, and compared to my 088 which is about 10 years old and has never missed a beat, be it milling or cross cutting, the above posts are most concerning.
  12. Call me about John Hurle TCD (its all good BTW lol), chatting to him the other day.......
  13. I am just going to get rid of my lanyard TBH and stick to two ends of my climbing line. I hardly ever use the damn annoying thin anyway.....although the distel/ micro pulley does have its place for sure.
  14. Send him an amended bill for his incompetence and your wasted time.
  15. Miele.
  16. It still hurts with a helmet on, but saves your skull/ life. A must at all times.
  17. I have always had between 2" and 10" overlength on 5m sawlogs when supplied.
  18. Thats the one.
  19. They are crap is my best idea. I have one which i have only had a few months and TBH i hate it. Gutless compared to the 361 it replaced and acts very strangely on startup.
  20. I think a very heavy reduction on that beech would be the death knell anyhow. down here about 30% on a beech is the max you can get away with on a mature tree. Beeches struggle on the whole in cornwall anyway though. However, what do you have to lose if the other option is to firewood it? A habitat mono would tick all the boxes- elimination of danger to targets, creation of habitat and lots of lovely firewood to boot. If you did do the reduction and the tree died then back to plan A anyway.
  21. YOu could try RobD on the forum too.
  22. Am i right in thinking that websites using flash player wont work on the i=pad......which is a bit of a problem seeing as 25% of websites use flashplayers, and the number is increasing. Apple cant control it so wont allow it.....
  23. I dont use a ropeguide....I never climb past the top rung of the ladder....its dangerous up there:lol:
  24. If knowledge IS power, then i reckon i must be completely powerless...
