  1. I've got a 10x5 and that's very heavy when fully loadeda12x6 would probably be over weight. The 10x5 has been manoeuvred into some tight spots easily enough. I don't know how much harder an extra few feet either way would make this, maybe a 10x5 would be a good compromise ?
  2. Yes Jon right side of the unit was sunk into the field pretty deep.
  3. It there's another assumption, quite a few on here run mogs and HGVs cranes etc that I would not consider to be 'bigger companies'. But we wouldn't have that stuff if it didn't have a use so just ignoring the bigger kit makes the comparison floored from the start. However as has been said the main issue is people can cut their own grass and small hedges but they can't fell and process or dismantle most trees. But as with anything efficiency is the key, which is why some choose to use more extravagant (for want of a better word) equipment to carry out 'everyday Arb work'.
  4. I'm not seeing your point about costs to be honest, a well equipped Arb team/company have far more expensive equipment than GM guys...certainly when considering all the climbing gear, grinders, LOLER, HGV etc. however I do agree the lower prices quoted in this thread seem a bit tight.
  5. Costs are negligible compared to the increase in efficiency i supplanted my 3.5t tipper and tipping trailer with an 18t tipper and crane and it's great. They can produce some hefty bills on occasion but these are few and far between with the mileage we do in Arb.
  6. Cut it small and carry it through make clear the level of 'damage' you expect to leave, if any and price accordingly
  7. Of course, however it's unlikely if there was that amount of brash these sort of customers would estimate 40 minutes realistic my price was for 3-4 cube an easy landy load and leaving the place looking like a bomb hit it. If the lorry were to come out the price would be considerably more.
  8. If it's 40 minutes that's a lot of chipping ! £150 including taking the chip away but no tidying up after. It's not worth any less you'd be hard pushed to rent a chipper for less than that.
  9. He already has a good spreadsheet, so his book keeping is done. But this guy deffinatly needs an accountant !!
  10. If everyone knows it's there then I'd light it up, then people can't creep about.
  11. Thought this thread may appreciate this from yesterday.
  12. Is your house located somewhere where people wouldn't notice it if it wasn't lit?
  13. Accountancy goes up because the money you earn is no longer 'yours' it belongs to the company so you get paid via payroll like your employees and the accountants have to organise can books etc etc. the main benefit is you save tax and NI, more so if you are on the higher rate as corporation tax is 20% as opposed to the higher tax rate of 40%.
  14. I thought the lowest tax band was 20% plus NI AT 7-9% ish ?
  15. Just had my nfu renewal £1506 for 04 110 tipper and a 06 L200 went back to Aviva £1100. NFU seem to make it up as they go along last year they seemed pretty cheap.
  16. Growth! Take on another full time guy or maybe 2 and get them through C+E
  17. Realise this won't affect your tax bill until Jan 16?
  18. Does a 2 man team really require a foreman? Surely if there's just two guys they should both be fairly bright and able to work together as equals.
  19. I'm sure the relatively low figure is due to a high percentage of re investment, but still if a decent businessman is paying himself less than that in this trade running 2-3 teams few employees can be worthy of more. You seem to just be playing devils advocate skyhuck? Or do you genuinely believe it would be realistic for lead climbers/foremen in an employed role to be paid upwards of £40kPA?
  20. Of course, but how many people in this industry are on 36-40k employed? I don't think many are and it seems a bit much to me. 25-30k would be about right in my opinion and sustainable for all parties.
  21. I'm an employer so is the OP so I'm talking from our perspective. When you look to employ someone do you aim to pay more than is reasonable or necessary ?
  22. Money seems spot on, eve a little high to be honest considering its PAYE and many many people looking for jobs in this sector don't seem to fully appreciate the differences between S/E and PAYE and are all too easily wowed by the larger gross pay offered on S/E deals. Maybe you could pitch your job to he small sole traders in your area by email or phone ? I bet most of them struggle to make that per year and if half sensible would rip your arm off for a pay increase, steady money and less stress
