  1. I changed to their oil recently as they're a local company, price was similar to Oregon, but oil seems much more tacky.
  2. W other prices are very relevant, I'd rather win it for £2400 than £1500. But hats still a good rate for a day.
  3. It is hard, and sad as Dave said. Because you only have their word to go on to start with, and few on here ( as shown in a recent thread about inadequate labour) advocate docking wages/cutting rates due to poor performance. And the trouble is they always think they know best and don't take on board any advice/criticism, so the only way is to keep going until you find decent guys....Then there's trying to explain why you want to 'pay them less' on PAYE.....
  4. The stein ones are nice I've got a few pairs, it's not all about the spikes though, I think choice of boots has a big effect on comfort when using spikes.
  5. Another hing to consider is all the replies are based on you actually being good, I've been trying out a few guys recently and I'd begrudge paying them £50 never mind £80 and all claiming to be experienced groundies.
  6. People get stuck in the woods by me all the time as their sat nabs take them through there! I've pulled a few out, but never come across anything like that, even when I'm charging them. Shocking, I bet it was great just packing up and going home
  7. About 40 a month for 250k and some loss of earnings cover, was 26 when I took it out, the older you are the steeper it gets!
  8. What, it wouldn't lift just he sub frame and hook etc ?
  9. What do they weigh? I want to convert my tipper into one it currently has a tare weight of 9900kg give or take with a crane and 20M chip box. It rarely weighs more than 16t when full, leaving 2 ton spare. I presume the hook gear wouldn't weigh more than that ?
  10. A hook loader would be ideal for this sort of thing with a bin for chipping into/ dropping stuff into with machine and a low bin for transporting plant.
  11. That's plenty lots are on less, but if you must ask for more don't discuss the other employees that isn't your business you need to address the situation with reasons relating to what you do not what others supposedly get paid....
  12. You are fine with C1E pulling with a landy at max train weight (7500kg I believe) no tacho/notes required operating within 50k radius of base
  13. Billy

    Pole saws

They are good, but the shafts break and it's not an economic repair so I've been without one for a while there's an odd job here and there where it's a pain but don't miss them most of the time.
  14. How to get out of a insurance policy without fees. Insure your car then when you want to get out ask to switch vehicle to a van for commercial use, in most cases they will have to finish the first policy and start a new one, this gives you a fresh 14 say 'cool off' period in which you can cancel for free.
  15. 30,31,38,39 is all you need, the rest is just experience and aptitude, no one can teach you to be proficient at rigging, dismantling etc etc
  16. It shouldn't require a report unless you are claiming there are defects present, which unless you have a report you shouldn't do...
  17. A good pedestrian grinder ( sharp teeth, good belts etc) and a good operator £600/ day should be achievable and IMO any stump worth grinding has to be £80/100+VAT. However there's a lot to be said for digging and or winching out smaller stumps.
  18. Doesn't look like you have any safe places it could have been left, I prefer them to leave it somewhere in the yard for me but they don't seem to like doing that recently, even at remote locations. Beats driving to there depot for it
  19. Jap 7.5t, same footprint 3x the payload.
  20. Blocking down what size ? New or used etc ?
  21. I'd run a business or be self employed one way or another, I went to uni ( construction management/surveying)and earn more than most if not all my peers doing trees...and I don't have to suffer a train into the city for it and this is just the beginning 😄
  22. So, not too useful. I mostly use mine for picking stuff up over walls and fences or picking pieces straight off trees and most things we lift are 2-300kg+ so you need to be able to lift this sort of weight with ease at 5-6 meters in order to reach over a pavement and a fence and down to the ground
  23. And I was trying to keeping diplomatic haha!!
