  1. I've considered this, didn't seem practical as 2 guys with a 9-18" chipper and 18t lorry must be worth £4-500 or so if put to work effectively. In many cases the people your wanting to hire you wont realise what you can shift in a day and and may not have a team used to getting gear down and out at a speed to make it all pay. Or they're losing the jobs where you could be of use to competitors with the kit and the knowledge to put it to work effectively, in the latter example it won't be competitive to outsource the service when quoting against firms with the kit as it doesn't cost much more to run than smaller stuff. So would be a tricky service to provide and make any money. Maybe just one man and the lorry would be better.
  2. I hadn't heard of this one, do you have to never go more than 50k from base or just use a disc when you do ?
  3. Unless your trailers u laden weight is less than 1020kg and you only carry your own goods, which covers most people using B+E Combinations However the other guy is referring to the rule where you can tow a 1.5t trailer with a vehicle weighing 2t without B+E but I think the vehicle has to have a MAM of 3.5 for this to work and strictly speaking the trailer should be plated with a mam of 1.5t so it disqualifies a tt105 with a very light load on it etc.
  4. If your a fairly good driver you should be able to get C and C+E for just over £2k or C1+E for a fair bit less as you can do it in a 6t Iveco panel van with trailer so barely any training would be required.
  5. Hi Steve just had a look at thee on eBay what are they like to ride in compared to the likes of a disco 4 ? And what's the fuel consumption like ?
  6. A land rover with a 4-5 cube box is the best compromise between sensible capacity, legal payload and off-road ability. The pickup conversions look good but rarely practical for the volume of chip produced on most jobs
  7. And who knows who that wood belongs to or if it's being given away/donated...

    Mountain Biking

Just bought one of these for £350.00. Had some crappy super tsar back wheel that was goosed though, replaced with a pro 2. However shockingly they are o ltd worth around £500.
  9. This is how interpreted it, so I don't have CPC.
  10. What makes these Arb courses so special? I left school and did a presumably L6 course I.e a degree straight off the bat, it was easy. Surely this is no different unless we're assuming the OP is a halfwit ?
  11. Recused a model aeroplane a few weeks ago, everyone else has expected it done for free...
  12. If it can't get somewhere on the lorry it can usually be back up there on the Landy or s pick up etc then the lorry back onto it, we can push it about on level ground but there is rarely any need to. I'd rather have an extra man dragging than suffer a smaller chipper on most cases. The caravan mover idea is interesting, do they have enough power to move a large chipper, as caravans are very light.
  13. W We run this on most jobs 2000kg ish wether there be 1,2 or more no problem as long as the driver can reverse
  14. I think Bandit/Global sell a stone for touching them up by hand, I presume it would need using little and often.
  15. Indeed, but my point of view is based on the current situation and what the market can stand which is what my numbers reflect. We deserve more than most trades when you compare the skill required combined with danger and adverse conditions as you have pointed out. But realistically most employers cannot pay £15+ p/h at the moment.
  16. What sort of rate would you suggest paying eggs? Good contract climbers are in the £15-£20 an hour region and they typically come with several saws, hundreds of meters of rope and bags of pulleys, friction devices and other Gadgets, and vast skill and experience and they are not similar to most workers.
  17. I agree with the replies, although that sort of money isn't going to allow a mega lifestyle it is what careers advice etc says our employees should earn and is online with what prices can stand. So should be the basis for current expectations, if people want more, other skills/ industries may be better suited to their aspirations.
  18. 20-25k ish broadly speaking I think this would be consistent with the average of offerings from employers from what I've seen.
  19. T This all makes a lot of sense, however certainly in this industry good employers paying a fair full time salary are often left by short sighted employees being offered unsustainably high wages and or cash wages for short term/ casual arrangements making it even more difficult for good, tax paying employers.
  20. Had my pair about two weeks now, the heel lock feature inside is great very snug comfortable fit. Slightly more forgiving than my stein phantoms but still very tough....shaping up to be the best boots I've had to date.
  21. Simple view, can't see him having any money for growth working like that though.
  22. Getting back on topic, you are too slow and planning to work inefficiently. You won't win many jobs against normal or good tree firms if you base your pricing on one man working alone with no kit.
  23. Big trailers are great we use a tt105 usually for logs as it's easy to load by hand as it is so low but it is also good for chip. Also, sadly it is not common for people do be equipped with suitable licenses for the industry they work in so finding an additional driver becomes a priority
