  1. That's a good point, however the 3.5t will need emptying 3-4 times day maybe more if you're cracking on. Unless you have many many tip sites so one is always close that's one team member driving most of the day.
  2. Search for 'what GVW Arb truck' this has all been discussed before plenty of discussion about pros and cons of different sizes and picture of peters lorry and mine among others. You're C1+E is only 7.5t and trailer. Anything over 7.5t with a trailer of 750kg is C+E. You'd be surprised where you can get an 18 ton with a chipper in tow, the minimal front overhang and excellent lock go some way to making up for the slightly larger size.
  3. Shouldn't have any troubles with power from a panel van, most guy use transits etc for the rest of their work, a big flatbed trailer would be my choice towed by a 4x4 etc that anything that needs to be kept locked away can carry
  4. What for ?
  5. But a friction device and go as big as you like, otherwise you're limited to tiny pieces as the groundy won't be able to control them.

  10. About £1500 maybe presuming you can fell them and the stumps are fairly small. But renting all the kit will make that price too cheap, maybe sub the job out ?
  11. Yeah, the tree is in Rainham near the Harvester, priced for a couple of days, did one solid 3 man day on the crown then an afternoon removing the last few bits of top and chogging down to crane height and another today picking off the last bits. What we did today could have been done in an hour or two but my current lack of full time staff means the 'crane operator' was on his first day! So we took things very slow and careful, more or less on time and money. The Wood is being sold as I don't have a mill. I've been offered about £350 for the two large sections smaller one is 2x1 the second is 1.3 at base and probably about 1 at the thin end and 2.5 long is this about right ? Good to hear it looks bigger now, some of the earlier comments suggested people had misjudged the size a bit from the pictures. All together one load of chip (18-20 M3) and the same wagon full of timber and a tt105 load of branch logs
  12. Returned to remove the last bit of the stem this afternoon. Removed the knotty top piece then took a 2M and 3M length off however once the 3 was down to re-strop ( it was too long to lift over the box) the crane couldn't lift it so had to knock 500 off the end, which wasn't too bad as it had a bit of rot in it anyway, which brought it just light enough to get it loaded.
  13. Just shy of 1.5 days so far just got to nip back and get the large bit of stick and deliver to the mill.
  14. Ah, yeah me neither, for some reason I thought you meant 12" diameter! Haha
  15. How's it get on with bigger stuff 24-36" and knots etc ?
  16. If the TO doesn't want it pollarding, which it appears they don't it's unlikely you'll change their mind, so just work to what they've granted permission for, or someone else will.
  17. I get leads through but the budget is always ridiculously low with very little info available, with no refund available they're not worth gambling on IMO
  18. No downsides as you can't tie a trailer much over the 85kph limit anyway and all vehicles should be well maintained. As long as you're willing to train the young lad to drive it. I made far bigger jump to 18t and have no regrets.
  19. I must know a lot of wealthy people then! My real point is my generation (I'm 27) moan about it being impossible to get on the ladder and come out with crap like "why should we save for an impossible goal" I'm a home owner, it took some doing and would've been easier if is opted for a smaller place with less land but it's certainly attainable. IMO this poor attitude is very closely related to/leads to the 'why work when I can claim x amount for doing nowt' attitude of those on benefits Britain.
  20. If something's easy it's probably not worth doing/everyone could or would have it/do it. people should stop moaning about house prices and get on with working and saving for them. As once they're on the ladder they'll soon change their tune about all the gains they'll be making over the years. Also I think tax credits are almost as big a joke as benefits especially for the self employed or family's where only 1 adult works through choice, it's just money for nothing.
  21. What exactly is a blown engine? Bent con rod with cylinder damage, interference up top etc etc?
  22. Possibly, but you'd be string it a bit too close, considering the tank is 135L so filling that would put you over, specialty with a few saws etc on board too or any passengers. The 6BYS are becoming quite hard to get now as they're quite sought after.
  23. Not in my experience
  24. This would be great, but the Dodge Ram weighs a shade over 3ton empty without much fuel in it, so you wouldn't have the payload to mount a decent chipper on there with turntable, unless you had C1+E and ran the Dodge at its intended weight, but in this case that would defeat the object of the idea.
