  1. A lorry will more than likely carry more as mobs don't actually have a huge chip box (but can tow large trailers) also the mog will be dear to run unless you want to run the risk of going down the Ag route..... WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  2. I've never tried carving but presume it's pretty time consuming £2000 ish certainly wouldn't be unreasonable IMO, that's a lot of garden furniture!
  3. I'm currently trying to change yards into a smaller space, and wandering if I can squeeze all my wood into a space if we process it first, does anyone have a rough formula etc for how much less space a pile of timber will take up once cut and split to help me work out of it's going to be doable? WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  4. Bought an 18t in the end, the way forward WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  5. As you've realised that's a fairly simple repair probably only about £2500 ish or less if you fit the new bearings and engine yourself, which is pretty easily done. What happened with therein bag? Mine has eaten a few with no ill effects other than The 30mins wasted cutting it free!
  6. Raced my lorry last week, I got a disc printed at bottom of letter as they have run out of discs, but I have to use this disc for 1 month until the new system starts, surprised they can't print them at the post office, it doesn't look legitimate in the slightest
  7. By dismantle I just mean the last 5-6m of stems like in the pictures and as the crane is relatively small, just using a strop give you max height. However I am sure a grab has many advantages, I may need to revise the front of the chip box so the crane can sit lower in the bed if/when I get a grab been looking at a few on eBay but they don't come cheap !
  8. Yeah it is got a Kinshoffer clamshell and rotator that I removed, will be looking to get a grab at some point but for dismantles I think a strop and shackle work best anyway? Also with he crane in the bed with the 2m high box the highest point on the crane ends up about 4m or so which is a little close for comfort on the power lines that run along my hedge and over the gate! 9. If it's clicking probably needs a charge, however it could be the relays under the seat, wiggle them around a bit or replace, they normally stop the lift pump and glow plugs activating when they have a turn. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  10. You need a chipbox it will be useless without one, the cranes pretty easy to use we dismantled the stems on that chestnut with it after a few days, wasn't as smooth as it could have been but easy enough. No bolsters in there but it's tough enough for logs IMO I may make some bolsters in the future as it would be easy to load/unload a load of pure logs with them.
  11. Notice the truck is over half full in first picture this whole chestnut fitted on bar a few logs, and if I had full height back doors they would have fitted. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  12. About 3 weeks, where we are out of reach of the crane instead of cutting stuff small get it on the deck as big as possible and take it out front with a man in each end to minimise cutting and stack it on a. Strop then load it with the crane, saves a lot of saw dust and time. You can fit them in surprisingly tight spaces. And even a very big chip box still needs a roof as when it starts getting full it gets messy. All in all it's awesome and I'd never go back it is making jobs that used to be a day for 3 4-5 hours for 2 of us efficiency has increased massively. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  13. Few pictures of building the body and it earning it's keep, a few days of using one of these and you wonder how you ever managed without !
  14. This is true but the increased output and service life (bearings and other components don't wear as quick because they are fit for purpose) trump the slight extra use of diesel and the truck struggling, which is a moot point really as most 3.5t Arb trucks are massively overloaded everyday and generally quite ineffective so who cares if the chipper goes a few hundred kg more the things are abused day in day out anyway...which leads us back to the hgv discussion. Little chippers can be moved easily by hand but big ones can be moved too, just less easily and if you can't back it in it probably won't fit anyway. Striving to make something that does what loads of other machines do already but with an unfeasibly low weight to avoid getting a fairly cheap towing entitlement seems crazy to me. Also due to a vast amount of people in the industry not wanting to get driving qualifications it has kept the price of small chippers higher than it should be, new and used. As if you have B+E you can grab an old schlisling, Jensen, Bandit, Vermeer etc cheaply that still delivers great performance. But I'm sure for a large part of the market who can't or won't train this new machine will be right on the money.
  15. I can't help but think this is only such a hot topic as some of us don't have B+E. Surely if you have the funds to buy new chippers you can spare £500 a head to put some guys through B+E then choose from all the chippers including the heavier ones which out shine these sub 750s in every way?
  16. My landy can take about 1100kg legally depending on fuel, not many 3.5t can do better than that. And that's not a lot of chip either! WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  17. Indeed, if the OP checks kent/Medway Yellow Pages and Tomson they'll see he wording! WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  18. Yeah I spoke to Harsh last week, was over a grand, I think we can put up with manual sheeting and I sheeting for the price difference. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  19. New truck, bit bigger than the other one! need to repaint the scruffy existing body to match the new chip box then get some sign writing. It's made work so much easier/more relaxed/more profitable. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  20. Who makes those? WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  21. How do you find chipping into your box with no roof, mine was great until it got really full then the chip Ramos off the remaining stuff and a bit spills over which is annoying. Think I need to make a sheet, or removable metal roof, not sure which will be easiest to work with Though. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  22. Army surplus goretex dry and breathable. Also Jack Pyke shooting fleece also goretex or similar but nice and warm waterproof and breathable great bit of clothing for work and dog walking etc. WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
  23. The current accounts are the best ATM from what I've seen paying 3-4% on up to £5k but they want you to put £1000 through it a month too
  24. Currently looks like this when extended WM Tree Services http://www.bestkenttreesurgeons.co.uk
