My missus has an Apple watch and can bump up the step count by doing her crochet! So repeated wrist movements seem to count as steps; perhaps that could account for some surprisingly high step counts? 😁

Nothing to do with rats but until recently I used rapeseed oil for my saws; one client's labrador spent half a morning licking the oil side of the combi can spotlessly clean, crusty bits and all

I was in Caithness last week; heard one in the Flow Country at Forsinard, then the next day saw and heard three of them - often squabbling - 15mins down the A99 from Wick in country similar to the Flow but more undulating. Sorry to be a Johnny two shits @Billhook but it's the truth, honest

...was a weekly affair among the road gangs resident in Kilburn and thereabouts though not necessarily with such classy outfits. The guys got paid on Thursdays, went shopping for a suit and wore it for the week - at home, down the pub, on the roads. The local drunks up and down the High Road - and there were a few! - were always in a suit!

No, the slimy little buggers will happily fell stems and move on to the next one. We struggle to grow asters or clematis here because of them; the traditional slug food like brassicas seem to do ok though Have a gentle scratch through the mulch near the plants and see what's under there; you're probably looking for <10mm grey slugs

A couple of pairs of regulars on the feeders here, now bringing their babes. A couple of greenfinches for two days last week too, one of them a fledgling. There are four nuthatches knocking about; two adult, two young with fluffy bits. One of them flew into a window yesterday (we get so many doing that); wifey picked it up, perched it on the oil tank under their favourite oak and half an hour later it was gone thankfully

Makes sense. A vet attending the cull said he didn't expect any further outbreak locally due to the higher temperatures. Hopefully the locals will be able to let their chooks out again soon 🤞

Any signs of bird flu near you AJS? We're in a confinement zone for now as a breeder had his entire flock culled last week due to the disease
