  5. Not a positive response I'm afraid but one born from experience. It'll wreck your body! Remember you'll be asked to cut the hedges no-one else wants to. Is your body up to hours of locking your legs against a tripod ladder while reaching across a 9' wide conifer hedge that's 10' tall with a long reach hedgetrimmer?! It gets your neck, shoulders, back, hips, knees. I stopped taking new hedge work soon before my 58th birthday and have never looked back on the decision; tree work's a doddle in comparison! If you're still up for it then I'd say rates vary across the country.
  6. A 4-5m specimen from Barchams will cost you just over £1k; do the math when compared to moving that! The chances of successful establishment are probably in a similar ratio!
  7. Unusual I'm sure but it's a bit early for wasps in numbers isn't it? August and September are the months

  9. I saw the Tourists at Reading University and later the Eurythmics at Wembley Arena: I was underwhelmed by the live performances both times given the great music they wrote. Dire Straits... the best name ever for a live band. Wembley Arena again and they were truly awful; the only bits of Mark Knoppfler that moved were his hands and lips. Dire indeed. Steve Winwood at the Albert Hall: another disappointing one as the acoustics were dreadful - every song sounded the same. The place should stick to classical music! Best gig ever for me - Peter Gabriel at ?Earl's Court. The man's a magician. So imaginative and does so much with so little in the way of props. Saw him again years later Wembley Arena when he has more rotund and had his daughter as his lead backing singer. Still excellent.
  10. They were brilliant in Brighton c1980. I don't like Geldof much but he is certainly a performer; half the gig was him talking to the audience and forming an excellent rapport. He's quite the showman
  11. Hastings Pier Pavilion was my local venue in the late 70s; saw The Stranglers twice, The Clash, Steve Gibbons Band, Eddie and the Hot Rods and many others forgotten
  12. Trouble with Wasps? Here Are Some Tips & Tricks - Gardening Guide - Bloomling UK WWW.BLOOMLING.UK 2015 has been an incredible year for wasps! Here's our tips for keeping them away from your garden party! There's a claim here that CO2 is used at the nest for alarm purposes. If true it would follow that wasps are naturally attracted to our heads which may make the deWalt safety specs irrelevant to this conversation
  13. Good to see the great sport discussed on here at last! So... Bairstow out as he butters his fingers before standing behind the stumps and can't bat at the moment? Ben Foakes as replacement. Discuss. It's gong to be a tough call re recalling Anderson for Old Trafford but maybe Ollie Robinson's back isn't good so that may play into the selectors' hands. Anyone know what happened to Stokes' hamstring/glute the other day? He was really struggling during that amazing 155 knock but seemed fine a couple of days later if not sooner.
  14. Looks like my mate in Scotland is a seriously big boy then
  15. I've just asked my daughter how many calories she burnt in last summer's 100km ultra; her Garmin says 6800kcal and 130,000 steps
  16. Kids are amazing. My wife worked at Great Ormond Street for years and some of the stories... So glad for him, for you and for the family; fantastic news AT LAST!!! Onwards and upwards. Best wishes to the lot of you Jon
  17. My missus has an Apple watch and can bump up the step count by doing her crochet! So repeated wrist movements seem to count as steps; perhaps that could account for some surprisingly high step counts? 😁
  18. You could cut that off at the ground at any time and it would come back; they're nigh on indestructible. Don't be shy. I wouldn't even be concerned about a spell of hot dry weather after a hard prune; their roots run so deep
  19. Nothing to do with rats but until recently I used rapeseed oil for my saws; one client's labrador spent half a morning licking the oil side of the combi can spotlessly clean, crusty bits and all

  23. I was in Caithness last week; heard one in the Flow Country at Forsinard, then the next day saw and heard three of them - often squabbling - 15mins down the A99 from Wick in country similar to the Flow but more undulating. Sorry to be a Johnny two shits @Billhook but it's the truth, honest
  24. Beat me to it; are telephone numbers not 'personal information'? Presumably they'd have names attached. Coincidentally my house is called Old Oak!
  25. Are you sure it's the motors dying? I have a Husky battery polesaw that packed up and 'dead motor' was the first and wrong diagnosis; it actually needed a new main loom which I guess had broken somewhere due to repeated folding and extending
