  1. Lovely bike. I always wanted its bigger brother.
  2. unedo..but could be andrachne and just found out they hybridise so could be that:confused1: There again it may not be Arbutus:001_smile:
  3. How big is 'enormous and venerable'? Pollarding is a great way of managing yew but it should be initiated from a young age and not with the complete removal of large limbs from older trees. I'm sure they will show signs of recovery for a few years ie new shoots but they will be using their own reserves to achieve this. I'd get a good mulch layer over the rootplates and keep them well covered.
  4. I have: Bulldog Stafford, Whitehouse Rodding 10, unmarked Knighton 9, Whitehouse Stafford 9, Elwell 2853 10, Staniforths Severquick 9, Whitehouse 234 9. They are all shaving sharp, mostly original handles (couple of replacements). Some more in garage but will need to find them out. I'm just sticking to my favourite three hooks now; Elwell 2796, Nash and SJ Yorks.
  5. One reason I won't kennel my springer outside now. Is there nothing the low lifes won't steal nowadays! Kennel and run for sale if anyone's after one.
  6. Second one is cherry and the first looks like oak.
  7. We used to do some work on a site in late 70s early 80s clearing willow. A retired Polish farm worker always used to ask us for the wood which we burnt on site. He came along with his cart made from an old pram, roped a load on and walked three miles to his cottage all day long. He spoke little English but would repeat; 'beautiful vood, beautiful vood'. Lovely chap.
  8. Where's the hedge? I can only see a row of stakes:001_smile:
  9. Taken from Facebook. Felling a Boabab. What is he up to!
  10. If it's Midland then 2 per yard 18" apart. Isn't south at 2' spacing?. I'd expect them to be about 65p each. Hazel is what we usually use or sawn.
  11. Paxillus involutus perhaps. If it is it's a deadly one.
  12. I'd pick up some old Elwell tools; fork, spade, hoes etc. You won't buy better modern stuff and they're a pleasure to use. Felco secateurs.
  13. American whitewood. Used in kitchen cabinets I believe.
  14. My L200 used to go into limp mode regularly. A common occurence with them. New steel gaskets on the turbo and EGR blanked off. Problem solved.
  15. Something in Midlands would be good. I've got ten too many billhooks.
  16. Sweet chestnutish but not sure it is.
  17. I remember years ago blokes I worked with always refered to that type of metal as 'monkey muck'
  18. Major difference between the Chinese and Japs is that the Japanese have a proud history of producing high quality steel goods which filtered down into their automotive industry whereas the Chinese seem content in producing inferior copies.
