  1. Illegal after May 2008. Shame...best and handiest stump killer ever imo.
  2. Unfortunately history repeats itself. Each generation learns anew...as someone once said: ' experience is wasted on youth' or words to that effect.
  3. Stump grind in morning to finish friday's job then two big beech dismantles thru to new year.
  4. Not bad...a bit thin and could be hotter:001_tongue:
  5. Buxtons doing them less 25% inc spare chain and pair of gloves...for what they're worth! Don't know the list price of this saw but there should be some really good discounts about now.
  6. I like that attitude. Hopefully over Xmas I'll manage a bit of grayling fishing with my son. Workwise it's %$!t at the moment. We do mostly LA work and they are really tightening their purse strings. Domestic is non-existent. Luckily I'm laid up with severe sickness bug:001_smile:

    Chainsaw Boots

Think I've been thru most during the last 20 odd years. Most give up the ghost at 12-18 months for me. Currently wearing Haix and they're the best yet.
  8. I like that...'experimental plot'. Wonder if it'd stand up in court
  9. I'm ordering a bag for Xmas. Just think what I'll save on drink
  10. Used both but prefer Stihl.....just seem torquier. As for reliability I don't think there's anything in it. They're out of the same factory and power units are the same. Probably better deals available on the Jonsered.
  11. The smoke could be interesting
  12. WRs are top bikes. Sold mine 'cos the 450, for me, was a handful on technical stuff. Bought a '08 WR 250 and am faster on that. Hope you're enjoying those green lanes.
  13. At last.....official confirmation of my mental state:icon14:
  14. About 20 odd years ago I did some work for an old forester who called these burry old oaks 'rundle oak'. He had no idea where the name came from but he had a theory that most of them were, or had been, hedgerow trees. Whether past management had influenced this type of growth I have no idea. Just a thought.
  15. I like it. Does this mean I'm insane and disturbed?
  16. Time to resurrect the old rod bracing! I'd walk away if he's not open to good advice ie fell. Does that road pass right by the tree?
  17. Just blocks up the stoma or should it be stomata? Hairspray does the same. The avatar shows how not to climb rock steps:001_smile:. Have a passion for bikes and the pic was taken on the Wyegate long distance trial. Bike's a Yam 450 which played up terribly on that day.
  18. No. I remember my old college lecturer telling us about it. Evidently before proprietary anti-transpirants they used to use it when transplanting evergreen spp..... the early days of Southern Tree Surgeons. It does work.
  19. The original anti-transpirant....a weak mix of wallpaper paste sprayed on.
  20. New here so hi to all. Started at 15 in '75 thinning with chainsaw...not sure it was legal....then working in horticulture and doing day-release Hort and Arb City and Guilds. Offered a full-time tree surgery job in '79. Most of the work then was felling dead elm and building huge fires. Took off to college again for two years and went self-employed in '87. Too many years to think about now but still love the job...most of the time! Oh.....what made me do it? I thought it'd make me irresistable to the girls:001_cool:
  21. As a first post on this site I hope I've not chosen a topic to get me off to a bad start! After two L Rovers and six Jap trucks I know what I'm sticking to. Currently 4 years into an L200 and the only problem has been a re-write of fuel pump ecu. Effects them all so I'm told.
