  1. Not so sure. The Japanese borrowed from the British and European motorcycle industry and improved upon engineering and reliability. Same with electronics and cars.
  2. There's a big difference between mickey taking and stupid pranks. Be nice having to make a quick exit from a tree with a bleeding limb and having to unjam a branch off your hitch.
  3. Strangely enough I watched that video last week. So many folds to create that blade. Beautiful.
  4. This is taken from the comments with the article RachTHball November 12, 2013 11:23 am I actually attend this school, I am a year 13 sixth form pupil and i would like to say that the pupils did ask for permission to attend the school in their cadet uniform, they WERE given clearance by the head teacher to do this yet when the 11th hour was over they were all sent home to change. The 2 minute silence as a mark of respect was also shortened to a 1 minute silence as it was said to be 'too difficult' to keep the school silent for 2 minutes, yet the silence was actually less than a minute long, it was 56 seconds maximum as i actually counted on the clock, a vast majority of the school pupils and teachers all feel this was an extremely disrespectful act and i can say i am extremely disgusted to have to say i attend his school under a head teacher who would do such a thing
  5. Can't believe a headteacher would do this: Poppy day cadet uniform pupils sent home from Wolverhampton school Express & Star

    Moto GP

I shall miss it on the TV but I'm not going to pay to watch anything.
  7. I know of a chap who had his 4x4 taken off his yard. He saw them drive off. He phoned the police, told them what had happened but also told them he thought one of them was armed. The response was swift with helicopter and armed police quickly finding them. No firearm was found but he got his truck back:001_smile:
  8. Amazing how much wire you find in corvids nests. Bits of barbed wire, pieces of old bed springs. Never put corvids nests through a chipper:001_smile:
  9. I too ran a shop side by side with tree work. The two were totally unconnected. I got sick and tired of the requests for discount on purchases and price matching. "So and so is doing it at £?" Ended up making £20 on a £500 sale. If you're working on a 50% mark up then everytime you discount by 10% you're reducing your profit by 30%.
  10. I've had to call emergency services on a few occasions and the response has been very good. However, on one occasion after dialling 999 the phone was not answered despite letting it ring for 15 minutes. Fortunately it wasn't a life threatening situation.
  11. A long time ago I was in negotiations with several manufacturers reps to supply machinery. I was going to set up an arb supply business which didn't happen:001_smile: As I recall, and I may be wrong, the trade price was approx. 30% off list depending on the number of machines ordered. The 30% discount being offered by many dealers must be cutting very close to the bone.
  12. I can't even imagine:confused1:

    Growing trees

I've just potted up a few oak seedlings taken from below a big and ancient oak. Hopefully they will give pleasure to someone in 500 years. Nothing like good provenance when it comes to trees:thumbup1:
  14. Hope you weren't spotted:001_smile:
  15. I've probably told this before but here goes:001_smile: As a kid I remember my dad being in a really bad way. He had a thorn in his hand and it became so bad that the doctors were talking of amputation.. He had six months of pain and being unable to sleep. Then it just cleared up! At that time he'd being laying hedges for forty years, with hands that you could take a rasp to, and never a problem.
  16. As a 'fallen' tree had the rootplate lifted? If it had then they may have expected that to be removed too.
  17. In modern Britain that could be anywhere since the use of local bricks was abandoned.
  18. Get on to them ot it'll be like that for posterity:001_smile:
  19. Results for 2013 championship http://www.hedgelaying.org.uk/national%20hedgelaying%20society%20championships%202013%20results.pdf
  20. As above. Perhaps leave as monolith if targets allow.
  21. Bulgaria, along with Romania is one of the places I've looked at longingly. Simple lifestyle, wild places, flora, fauna, fishing, bit of shooting etc etc. Truth is I don't think my gonads are big enough to make the break:001_smile: Good luck.
  22. I had a ring of oak which I made into a timepiece. ie I dated it back to 1710 on the rings and then marked all notable dates on it. Had to leave it behind and the ex screwed it to a post for a birdtable!
