  1. I seem to remember that when the 357 first came out there were a number teething problem that needed sorting out, and i would guess that it will be the 560. Don't buy a newly designed saw, wait at least a year for the problems to be sorted.
  2. Yes a drivers licence, and a tabloid on the dash of you transit.
  3. How long is a piece of string. The wood is going to be of intrest to wood turners in green form, and for them to be excited then it will need to have interesting grain/ color. If it is good enough then you would be better off getting it milled and storing it yourself, then you be be talking £35+ per cubic foot.
  4. Looking good, it must give you a certain sence of satisfaction to use something that you built yourself. However one it has been in the woods a few times and you have inadvertantly dropped a few logs on it, i doubt that i will look as good, and i give you a month before the lights are either broken or smashed or both. Well done.
  5. Here you go: Northumberland Firewood Fair | Northwoods
  6. Loss of satalite signal ?
  7. You need: Sheds, the do it yourself guide for backyard builders, by D & J Stiles. Helped a friend build one in his woods using this. Simple enough for even me to follow.
  8. A light prune every couple of years is all the tree needs. Any more and you might as well fell it and start again.
  9. If it is an easy hedge, then i charge by the yard, £4-£7 per yard, if it is a nasty/horrorable hedge then it is a day rate. Bearing in mind this is for the Pembrokeshire style, so none of your fancy styles in west wales
  10. Yes Steve i am fine on other websites it is just arb talk
  11. There can be only one
  12. This is what bull guard is saying http://ads.lzjl.com/newServing/links.php?zone=0&chad=1&adu=2&cs=&adtype=0&nid=5&sid=32235&pid=19549&spid=0ℑ=2&memkey=5aa88a1d183cf72b82053f409d10745e&durl=&lq=0&lb=1&qp=YF4lJi77KTB7_iQqIyx8YVFUOXwlKSF8-W9RMC0jfCMx82dqK_wjLSAkKCN-KC0&ref=http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/search.php?searchid=5059234 Meaningless to me but it is getting annoying now.
  13. Every time i click on a different page the computer keep trying to go to different web site, something about one earth. I am not sure what it is as bull guard blocks it. Is there possibly a problem with hackers/ malicious virous ?
  14. Both have there merits, and both have there negatives. The skill of a good climber is to know when to use which one, and how to adapt it safely to your particular style of climbing.
  15. I am sure that there must be a double entendre about shiney helmets that glow in the dark.........
  16. Good to see some proper gnarley verterans, did you feel better after your walk ?
  17. If it was in my garden i would not be overly worried, the tree seems to be coping.
  18. Not that local but it might be worth a try: Machinery Hire - Aberystwyth & Pembrokeshire | Dylan Thomas
  19. Somebody has spent too long polishing it, with that kind of shine is ceases to be a work vehicle.
  20. I have had a couple of pairs of walking boots re-soled in the past. One pair worked very well, the other didn't. For it to work the leather has to to be in good condition and not too streched, otherwise the leather will distort and they won't fit.
  21. Take some cuttings in the winter and getting them grafted will be the only way of being certain of keeping the tree alive. Just make sure that the wood is clean and free from infection. Looking a the pictures i would say that the tree is suffering from old age that has lead to infections that is making the problems worse. You can try cutting out the worst of the dead/ infected wood but given the amounts it will probably be too much and the tree will die. Better off letting the tree die gracefully and leaving it for deadwood habitat, and replanting with the freshly grafted wood.
  22. I don't get it
  23. Alder Alder Alder Alder Alder. Fast growth, straight trunks, splits easy, seasons quickly, and burns well. There an be only one !
  24. Every method has its flaws. I measure when the timber is stacked, and work it back from there. And as it is only me that is doing the measuring there can only be one answer. The main reason that i use m3 is that it is a constant, and does not change as the moisure content changes. It also gives me an advantage when selling in the woods as i can say with some certancy how much is in a stack and how much i want form it. What works for one does not always work from another.
  25. I would stick with m3, as this is constant. Tons are fine if you have either a weigh bridge or axels with built in scales. I am selective thinning hardwood i reckon on about 60-70 trees a da y(that equals approx 12 m3), as most trees will be a pig to get on the deck. With the mighty Nuffield i am pulling out about 15 m3 a day and cutting to 12 ' lenghts. With the forwarder i can manage about 9 loads a day (about 5 m3 per load) to road side. Hope this helps
