  1. I think the relevant government departments like DVSA etc. should be duty bound to HELP you in these situations and talk you through the process. Instead they seem more intent on telling you you are doing it wrong but aren’t exactly sure why. The grey areas exist because their regs are so convoluted. It’s a bloody disgrace, really. We are paying their wages.
  2. 1800’s tech, love it.
  3. It’s certainly possible, but I think licences have to be individually obtained from DEFRA. The GL rules were in a bit of a muddle last time I looked, thanks to Packham et al. The best solution for me is to have flexible ‘banker’ jobs we can drop onto so we don’t lose a day if we find a live nest. Incidentally, and I know it’s not technically legal, but we have successfully relocated plenty of live nests into retained trees in close proximity if the situation allows. It’s a common BS line that if you touch a nest the parents won’t come back to it.
  4. Do Treestuff ship to the UK?
  5. We’ve pulled off loads of jobs when we’ve found live nests, and had to reschedule. Certainly left trees and hedges in some very odd looking shapes! It’s a ballache, but the right thing to do. If I said there hasn’t been any collateral damage over the years though, I’d be a liar. You’ve just got to do the best you can, basically, and use a bit of common sense. If I was asked to remove a 60m line of large connies at this time of year, for instance, with doves flapping about in them, it’s time to talk the client into plan B.
  6. Nowt to do with the GL Paddy, all live birds nests are protected, regardless of species or pest status.
  7. Should be easy enough. A few years ago a couple of Norman soldiers were going to fell it with axes.
  8. Oh bollocks, here we go....
  9. Glad it’s all sorted fellas. We can move on to the Suez crisis now....
  10. Bugger, put it on the main forum.
  11. I reckon we can easily make £50/oz off Kev if we play our cards right.
  12. PM sent.
  13. It’s not single malt J!
  14. Don’t ask me how I know this.
  15. Peasant! A loose bollard is a total clusterfuck waiting to happen. Just chuck one, straps, a loopie and various crabs on top of everything else and see what happens.
  16. I think this is a very valid post. If you want to chip 6” timber then a 6” chipper is not the way forward.
  17. I’ve yet to see a perfect solution to this. I carry my bollard, straps etc. separately to my ‘normal’ rigging kit in a tough plastic rectangular tub with rope handles, but it’s a pita to carry any distance.
  18. Hahahaha, if arb goes tits-up Jay you’d get a job writing headlines for The Sun no problem!
  19. The media seem to focus on some people who are hard hit, but were running a shit business before the pandemic. One hipster was selling loaves of artisan bread to people in house boats, baked in a normal kitchen oven. Probably made about £20 a day. ’Lockdown ruined my life’. Boo hoo hoo.
  20. What’s the craic in the aviation industry when the world opens up again Paddy? Will it still be a long time before they need the same amount of people doing the jobs? Obviously hospitality is bolloxed, but I can see it bouncing back very, very quickly.
  21. Same Carlos, they do them in a screw gate version now as well if you require extra security. Don’t tell your wife I told you about them Rob!
  22. Reminds me of the bloke who went to his doctor and said - ’I think my wife has died’. Doctor said - ‘What do you mean you THINK your wife has died? Why?’ ’Well’, said the bloke. ’The sex is still the same, but the washing-up is starting to pile up’.
  23. I knew you wouldn’t let me down.... 😊
  24. I’ve got a 160, but I work pretty much 50/50 with a mate who’s got a 230 (older 35hp diesel, one of the last). It’s night and day on chipping capability, the 230 pretty much eats anything we can drag to the hopper. Can’t comment on the Greenmech, haven’t used one for a long time, although I know you will get good back up from Pete on here and the team. I also have no experience of the ST6 although I’ve used an ST8 a fair bit and was very impressed. Where are you? Local dealer service helps a lot when you need it. I’m in Kent, but use Greenplant in Guildford which is a bit of a yap but their service and understanding of Timberwolf machines can’t really be bettered. I personally find them pretty easy to work on, and parts availability is great.
