  1. He didn’t have mate. It was a scary tree. We are talking just cambium holding some big heads. Obviously I would have just grown a set and cut and chucked it blah blah blah.
  2. My dumb mate put a new £35k tennis court surface under this FUBAR’d ash. Von climbed it a couple of weeks ago but we decided it was too dodgy to rig. Every major limb had huge cavities. You can just about see the handle of a Zubat protruding out of one in one of the pics. Called in a mate with a tracked MEWP to slim it down for a fell between the court and a grain store.
  3. Correct. Or in customer-speak it's 'a pine tree, bigger than the house'.
  4. That sound just then was Stevie jizzing in his pants.
  5. I find myself agreeing with Mick more and more these days. I may need to take a break from Arbtalk for a while.
  6. Because they are bankers who don't understand our industry. I have been very impressed with the service from JCB Finance recently, they are happy to do chippers.

    Uniform

Sorry, meant it IS a good move, just picked up on this!
  8. Offer the side cover up to the chain brake loose but canted slightly to the top so it engages, and pull back on the chain brake handle. Hold the side cover firmly. Bingo!
  9. I have formed a new International company with @Mike Hill. We have called it ‘Harold Shipman Tree Care’.
  10. They only get away with 90 days because people let them.

    Uniform

I think ‘uniform’ is a bit strong, as we all have different tastes in trousers and boots. All wearing the same tops does portray a professional image though, and I’m all for it. Good tops, not crappy cheap polos and sweats. Doesn’t even have to be logo’d. We often turn up in the same Rab gear, or similar. Avoiding looking like tramps is not a good move when you like charging pro prices.
  12. Don’t go spoiling my ‘good old days’ rant with a bunch of facts thanks Steve!
  13. Everything in the whole world uses cheaper parts these days. Can anyone think of anything that’s better made than it used to be?
  14. Being shunted from behind never has a good ending.
  15. Aye, I’d like to see them replace it Stubby! I sold it to a farmer mate, he’s using it to stop the pikeys getting into a field gateway.
  16. I get it if I had a smart truck mate, but I haven’t. NFU have a good reputation but they are charging for stuff I don’t need, like audio cover. The Tranny came with a cassette deck! When I upgrade to a nice truck I’ll be calling them again. My contact there was highly professional and totally got where I was coming from.
  17. I always point that out to my idiot farmer mates Peat. How I laugh as they beat me with their shovel-like hands!
  18. I wasn’t quite sure about that tbh Andy. The trees I cut down belong to other people, but when they go into the truck they become mine because they are going back to my yard, in whatever form, and I’m keeping them.
  19. That time of year again, for me to launch an extremely boring thread. I’ve been with NFU for a few years, but I think I’m paying Premier League prices for Division 3 requirement. My Transit d/c tipper is 13 years old, good workhorse, but probably worth less than £4k. I’m 50, clean licence, 9 years + no claims. One other named driver over 30 with clean record, licence held for 15 years. NFU can’t get below £600. Can anyone recommend any companies from PERSONAL experience of insuring 3.5t tippers? Please no ‘farm boy age 22 pays £170 fully comp for his brand new truck through Direct Line’ stories. Loads of companies won’t insure commercials or tippers, and I haven’t got time to be calling them. Have you seen how long the buggers keep you on the phone for? Key words ‘personal, experience, 3.5t and tippers’. Thanks.
  20. Sounds very, very handy that Al. Chalara-tastic.
  21. Looks tidy Al. What height and outreach has it got?
