Hahaha! In all fairness I’m pretty sure I’ve seen 4.5t ‘dry’ quoted mate. You know and I know it’s a myth, add fuel, any additions on the bed, gear, driver etc....

Those steam engines weighed a ton though, the modern diesels are lighter, so payload is increased.

Big thanks to all at @Honey Brothers Ltd @Honey Bros for their service today when Danny Mac, Marc, Hooper and I popped in to buy a few bits. Lovely new shop and great banter and advice from all their staff. Special mention to Woody, who really knows his stuff. Coffees hit the spot, and Hooper enjoyed his treats and meeting everyone. Thank you!

Do I agree with it? Not particularly. Will I wear one? Yes. I’ll pick up a ninja looking one from Honeys on Wednesday as I have to take the chipper down to Guildford. I don’t really do shopping, but not being able to pick up after work tinnies would be more than a minor inconvenience. I’m just not willing to take that kind of risk.

The Queen does still send out messages for 100th birthdays, but you have to apply, it’s not automatic. Mam did it for Grandma a few years back.

Conny nailed today. Couple of lumps left to be carved into benches. I drank 4l of water today and didn’t piss once, got on the lagers for clear up.

Danny Mac has been climbing for 20 years and reckons this is the largest conny he’s ever done (in terms of volume). Genuine 80’ (measured) maiden Leyland which had room to grow. In the usual titchy garden with shit access and a fair drag. Pretty much all rigged, we got here today with a 4-man crew. Thankfully all cord is staying in the paddock next door. Meanwhile I’m having a vague argument on FB with some prick (Luke Pooley - are you on here?) who says he’s never taken on a tree that 3 men can’t do in a day if they’re good enough. Good luck with that! Or maybe we’re just shit? 9 m3 of chip out today, everything over 4” corded and stacked ready to be carried out to the paddock on Friday (shorter carry, the brash drag is a 50m bitch, the paddock has no vehicle access).

Hooper is Danny’s dog mate, climber I work with. Little cracker, 14 weeks. My two labs haven’t been out with us much recently, too hot in the cab and they’re happy at home with company.

This is the job from yesterday before we finished the Corsican. Snapped willow limb over a pond resting on a BT line which was about as tight as it could go. Bit of a head-scratcher as we thought that if we took the tips off the limb would want to drop even more and snap the line. Ended up putting a block in an adjacent tree, remotely setting a pull line, and using some Transit power to pull the butt up off the line as the snap was severed with a pole saw. I’ve let you down. I’ve let Arbtalk down. Most of all, I’ve let myself down. (They were on special and the only lagers in the chiller cabinet!)

Finished the Corsican but had another job on first, then a monsoon, then a cavalcade to cheer for a mate coming home after months in hospital with C19. Didn’t get up the tree till 3, but managed to finish. Hooper survived, but had gone home by the time I got the stump shot!

Short but chunky Corsican today. Absolutely everything rigged due to minuscule garden. 10m3 of chip away so far, heavy tomorrow. I started then Danny Mac finished up top. This was in the village, so distracted at the end with mates and cold ones during half-hearted clear up. Dan’s 14 week old cocker ‘Hooper’ apparently died during the clear up. Or did he? Episode 2 tomorrow tree fans!
