  1. Yes, its a hydraulic operation pack for a tirfor They are fortunes to buy new and make a heavy lump of kit impossible to lug around.
  2. Why have you got 2 left legs?
  3. I don't know if you are right there Rupe, you can tell them what to do while they are on the clock but not on their own time, if they present unfit for work you can take action but sacking them for a sporting injury is probably heading for a tribunal
  4. It tends to be the fact that its also gearbox oil complete with all the detritus and ferrous particles that kills the hydraulic system. Back end oils and filters seldom get changed and when they do the gearbox has lots of lovely ribs and corners to keep the crud in there that getting the job done well is nearly impossible.
  5. Older tractors use UTO or SUTO but modern ones use some pretty expensive fancy back end oils.
  6. I recon use ISO32 and put the engine oil in an engine:laugh1:
  7. Not in a hydraulic system it wont
  8. I am confused hydraulic oil will be 30 or 32 grade What's that about?
  9. Errrrr 10w30 isn't hydraulic oil
  10. The terminology is likely to be different between the UK and Canada
  11. They must be, how do silky get them sharp
  12. The PPE is a given, then you need to be able to operate a saw, rescue can come later, the ability to tow a trailer (bigger than a wheelbarrow) would be a distinct advantage.
  13. The unemployed don't effect me, and I am not aware of anything they do to make me go bust, by and large I just drive past them without a second thought, as for "retests" I have just paid for my MANDATORY medical to retain my LGV licence, not much uproar from professional drivers.
  14. I hate to burst your "its not fair, big bad government bubble" but the legislation is Europe wide, Brussels is where you need to complain
  15. Mate, its just the cost of doing business How much for a suite of NPTC certs, Insurances, Saws, PPE? How much in overloading fines at a pound per kilo? How much time lost in extra trips to tip off or run more than one vehicle?
  16. You can do a test for a 7500kg truck. Without checking as I remeber it takes you to 8250kg on a rolling load. You have to get an MOT for a van so I don't see your problem with that and the checks aren't crazy, they are very simple and they are relatively few and far between. I know these forums make it seem like its onerous but taking that opinion from a place where people often come to complain about things is a mistake. Given the number of people on forums who profess ethics professionalism and high standards about tree work its a shame we can't project that professionalism onto running vehicles.
  17. If your business model won't stand the cost of a driving licence category it's time to pack up
  18. You are a shining example to aspire to:thumbdown:
  19. Why is that then, aren't they allowed to do further driving tests and get a higher category licence????????????
  20. In the whole, with a chainsaw, a big chainsaw
  21. I think your Ash tree is an Oak
  22. There are a couple of considerations, yes the tree would be damaged, all pruning damages trees but they tolerate it to varying degrees. You should also make sure the tree isn't protected by a Tree Preservation Order or by a Conservation area. In England you have the common law right to cut the branches back to the boundary (subject to the protection mentioned above). The branches belong to the tree owner, if they don't want them you can dispose of them an any way you can conscience, if you return them to the owner be careful not to damage anything. Given the sap issue I am going to guess its a sycamore and its actually the aphids that are causing the problem, pruning back will help but the "honeydew" (read aphid poo) will drift on the slightest breeze.
  23. They aren't any sort of legal requirement because there is no law requiring their use. What happened is a manufacturer decided that it would be a good idea to make them and the working groups (with HSE oversight) that write our industry best practice said, "well we might as well include them" while they may be a requirement for an NPTC assessment that is far from making them any sort of legal requirement. Wearing cut protective gloves is a matter for your risk assesment
  24. Yes, well for wanting any protection. Chainsaw protection evolved in gloves because is could. In evolutionary terms it is a third nipple
  25. Kingpin ditchfinders wear like Brie Get the rust off before painting, don't forget the top of the chassis rail, a pressure washer won't get the rust off.
