  1. Yup that's a magnolia
  2. I have used both of these in the past and never been disappointed A bit far from you though Wholesale Tree Nursery, Shrub Nursery Southport | J A Jones & Sons Lanes Landscapes Limited
  3. If I may, who does the tree belong to? It looks to be outside the hedge so I am going with an outside chance that it may belong to a third party. If it belongs to the landlord and he wont do anything then any works will need to be funded by you and you will need the landlords permission. If the tree belongs to a third party, and its causing damage to the property (banging on the roof) the owner needs to act to abate the nuisance. As far as the TV signal goes, you will be fortunate if it is possible to address this with sustainable pruning. Similarly the shade issues can be addressed to a degree by pruning however what the industry and British standard considers sustainable pruning wont give you a significant increase in light values. Before you initiate any works you should check for statutory protection, your local authority website will have more information on Tree preservation and conservation areas.
  4. Ha ha, they are rugged alright, that old blue factory door looked a bit second hand after you reversed the chipper up it
  5. Its not a service although working on the vehicle isn't prohibited, it is a safety inspection and correction of defects
  6. So do I, the standard body just isn't designed to be a tipper, I fear it will not be durable enough.
  7. Five surgeons from big cities are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on. The first surgeon, from Toronto , says, 'I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.' The second, from Montreal, responds, 'Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.' The third surgeon, from Vancouver , says, 'No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order.' The fourth surgeon, from Winnipeg chimes in: 'You know, I like construction workers...Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.' But the fifth surgeon, from Australia shut them all up when he observed: 'You're all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains, and no spine.. Plus, the head and the arse are interchangeable.'
  8. If the motor won't run you need an automotive electrician rather than a hydraulics man, check the wiring over first. Could just be a bad connection, check the earths as well
  9. Plenty of that finger trapping stuff on eBay You can't run it direct with a motor, it needs slowing down from engine speed to about 500 rpm and they are dangerous enough at that speed. Watch your fingers and don't let anyone else use it. Put PTO finger trapping device, oooops I mean log splitter into ebay
  10. Old trees in urban areas sometimes have ww2 shrapnel in them, nothing quite like a bit of bomb casing to rip the teeth completely off.
  11. Why is it not worth the paper? If your sub contractor has no insurance should you be giving jobs to them? For your own piece of mind you ought to be checking they have insurance. If they muck up it will bight you in the rear, ambulance chasing lawyers and all that.
  12. No he is down the police station charged with criminal damage and assault :laugh1:
  13. The tents protect the caterpillar, if you destroy the tents with a pressure washer the caterpillars become bird fodder, it wont get rid of all of them but it will reduce the population. On a big infestation its a bit labour intensive mind
  14. Here is my take on that. AFAIK Lets define subie (sub contractor). A sub contractor is a contractor that you hand a job or part of a job over to wholesale, they are largely free to do it as, when and how they please. Most insurers will have a condition like this, I have never had a PL policy that didn't. The condition can only apply to relevant insurances rather than all insurances. It cant negate road risk for instance for example. It wont apply to freelance labour (often mistakenly called sub contractor) because they are classed as employee for the day.
  15. You can get them re soled, there are places you can send them or I took mine in to Timpson's on the high street edit http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/35287-can-zermatt-boots-re-soled.html

  19. You will get used to it
  20. What's on the list? This is an adjustable strop AKA work positioning strop Side lanyard kit 5m | F R Jones and Son Other suppliers are available
  21. Nor will Nat West and I think all the others
  22. a 12 bore at point blank range, and there was enough left to put in your pocket?
  23. It would need to be a small tree, the tank simply wont hold that much fuel so you have to send it down for a re fill and if you are doing that get a bigger saw sent up, there is no substitute for swept volume. The main advantage of a gutsy saw is that you can whack out big bits with less chance of a the timber splitting on you
  24. Has it deposed your lid?
