  1. Oxy acetylene torch otherwise known as a gas axe, the only way to slow them down is to laminate the security with layers of steel and non ferrous and a sheet of asbestos if you can. I hope they don't flame cut anything of mine, I keep the fuels in there, its marked flammable so when it goes up and burns them I am allowed to throw salt on the wounds.
  2. It's last effort certainly did its bit for emissions on those cars. Boris will be well up for big Poplars
  3. You could at least say where
  4. Fixed that for ya
  5. Beat me to it, except I would recommend the door knock and explain in person, tune adversity into advantage
  6. Unless................................. you advertise the position as competencies essential "held or in the process of achieving" Its the kind of thing they do when "they" offer you a job based on higher qualifications such as before your degree results are out. Its a bit unethical for a chainsaw qualification and I don't know how legal it is but it would make achieving the competence the responsibility of the employee. From an employers point of view it would certainly prove dedication if they did it and they would have the benefit of a wage and "on the job" while they got it together. I just realised that all sounds a bit Dickensian, sending boys up chimneys next:laugh1:
  7. You can ask them to contribute but they don't have to, most places use what is called a training agreement. The employer pays training and time and the employee signs an agreement to the end that if they leave within a specified period they will reimburse the employer on a tapering scale. So if they leave within a week they repay the lot, if they leave a week before the end of the agreement expires they repay a few quid. The life of the agreement is usually proportionate to the capital sum.
  8. Anyone wearing that should slip with it and remove their ability to pollute the gene pool
  9. Ancient history mate, did that before it went on the road, didn't need to though, I could have invoked the general exemption of "cos I am a tree surgeon". Having a winch on it helps as well.
  10. That's the face to face handover policy for you:laugh1:
  11. If you paint the cab make sure your man knows that the only thing that sticks well to NATO green paint is more NATO green paint, preparation is everything Is yours a 6 pot? they were normally 4 and that's a tight enough fit that I wouldn't want to squeeze 2 more cylinders in there. Radios are for when you are parked up, Perkins is music of its own. Any news on that exemption yet...................:laugh1:
  12. Speak for yourself
  13. That's not a crash its a bit of a scrape, should have gone to speck savers:laugh1: If he is going to "crash" better a wheelie bin than a tree.
  14. With you on this one, pirtek are pants, for the price they charge the service should be gold standard but its average at best. The other reason not to use them for this is that the guy wants a pump rebuild and pirtek don't do that. Can we see a picture of the pump please?
  15. Gladly mate, proud to be a northerner, we are of course the true form of Northerner, the lesser species of Geordie was only put there by God to separate us from the Scots.:laugh1:
  16. Anything North of Watford is a Northerner Mark
  17. I would say don't grind, sand. I use a flap disc, its a lot less savage than a grinder (they go down to 120 grit if you need) and leaves a lot better edge, if the edge is badly worn it is possible to build it back up with weld before you "grind" it back.
  18. You can sat that again I had a SIII and it was dire, I fitted a Perkins to cure its addiction to petrol stations but I couldn't cure its embarrassing habit of picking a wheel up on the slightest of uneven ground. Designed to be carrying a pallet of artillery shells it was awful when empty. Good fun though
  19. Perhaps not but they are professional wood cutters
  20. For the pruning works the council cant insist on using an approved contractor any more than the general public can, if the contractor is operating on their land they can condition things like insurance but not an approved contractor. There are plenty of good contractors out there approved or not
  21. It was ever thus..... Gave one new guy an 026 (it was a few years back) to sned a top with, his reply "I am not familiar with this model", still wanted top wage though.
  22. I have used the muck truck in the past, its a good tool except for the finish Powder coat on the tinworks sheared edges, doesn't take well and the truck was a rusty disgrace within 2 years. Get the edges "fettled" or change the coating
  23. Looking at that out of context it makes little sense, where did you take those figures from?
  24. Perhaps they should die off, as you say if there isn't the demand they will expire There are many reasons the APF is a Bi annual affair and demand is one of them. Once upon a time there was only the APF now there are a lot more shows and that will reach saturation point.
  25. Do you work for the Arb Assn? You do know this show is one of their major money earners don't you? I would say its up to them to make the show interesting enough, shopping I can do on line.
