  1. Dave, how can it be nonsense, its a statement of fact. Stihl can impose whatever conditions can legally defend, as can any supplier, you can walk into any shop and they can refuse to sell you any item for no better reason than they don't like the cut of your jib. I cant stop them enforcing this policy and I doubt something that's come from the top can be changed even by the power of the internet, the only thing that will change it is IF it loses money. All I can do is accept it and move on. As you say the world has changed, now its changing again. I do remember several posts on here where people have berated the DIY sheds for selling saws to joe public without training or a care in the world, this is the opposite of that and (the start of) what those people wanted so they should be happy.
  2. You guys that are getting worked up about this must be young, Some of us remember a time when the internet was science fiction and going to the dealer for parts and saws was the norm.
  3. Unless i am mistaken thats the unmistakable shaper of A warn 8274 winch Here is another
  4. The 880 is a good little tractor, a lot have ended their days as scraper tractors but there are still plenty of restoration candidates out there. Buying one "Finished" will cost you a lot more. Parts and advice are readily available from the David Brown club The David Brown Tractor Club :: For All Things DB and Barcley Williams - Home Price will depend on condition there is a tidy but recently painted one on ebay at the moment for 1300 quid, the last "minter" I saw for sale was over 2K, but it was still for sale a month later which might tell you something.
  5. What works are you going to do with that? Its a tool carrier, it wont handle chip at all and a paltry amount of log.
  6. They do if you don't tell them, I know of one disco that had a 300tdi in it (I fitted it) as a replacement for a 200 that ran on its own oil, the owner never thought to inform the insurer and when it got in a smash the loss adjuster wasn't at all happy, any excuse not to pay out. A small lift like that isn't too significant, larger lifts affect prop angles and suspension components which in turn affect handling, (not that they ever went round corners like they are on rails anyhow:laugh1:)
  7. There is the thing, just got a sale catalogue through, there is one loader tractor in this bracket, a couple of years ago you had a choice of half a dozen Old school tractors don't need a computer to fix them and will hold value because of that.
  8. Make sure you tell the insurer when they say, "modified in any way"
  9. Well I was considering chopping the 390xp in for a 66, I do like the 66, but given the piss poor standard of my nearest stihl dealer, I will have to travel for parts so I might as well stay with the husky. The 390 is my first husky in over 2 decades of loyal stihl ownership, I can see the husky thing spreading. Stihl must have plans to bring their dealer network up to scratch to deal with the local work, that will need to be ASAP
  10. If you own an elbow on your right arm its a no brainer, disco all the way, subject to mechanical and rot caveats
  11. There you go then, I fear the days of the bargain tractor are gone
  12. That it is but its a sellers market, I would like to see it for three K and with a better loader
  13. This would be a candidate for me, I have owned a few Browns and know the marque. This one has the late model power steering but the loader isn't the best, a "power down" loader with hoses at both ends of the ram would be better DAVID BROWN 990 tractor with loader | eBay
  14. What's your budget like That one is a bit of a nail for that kind of money, you will need pick up arms and a bucket for that trip loader.....trip loader,..... nasty
  15. Why do you want to paint the inside
  16. Its not small works, you wont be able to use the CSW body, you will need a truck cab (my preferred option) and a tipper, doing it yourself is an option, having someone else do it could be expensive.
  17. How long is a piece of string Run the breather into the chassis rail, its a bit late to prevent rot but it will mean your engine wont run on its own oil. One I did that to as a young car has a perfect chassis
  18. Forget the exhaust, its the wrong side of the rings, the worn rings are allowing combustion gasses into the crank case where they pick up oil and exit through the crank case breather which leads to the air box, early 200 tdi's were famous for running on their own oil.
  19. Nope, any oil that goes into the exhaust will burn or oil the exhaust but that's nothing to do with oil in the air box, the two aren't connected, what's happening is the engine is pressurising the sump and forcing aspirated oil up the breather, if enough of it gets into the air intake it can start running on its own oil and that's a recipe for self destruction
  20. Half the trick of not getting pulled is to look like you don't need to get pulled:laugh1:
  21. I like it when that happens, as long as its clean and fits:laugh1:
  22. He isn't looking for a job, he is self employed, there is a huge difference from an employers point of view
  23. Be that as it may its not what you perceive it's their perception that matters.
  24. There is an element of training the competition. You have already said that you will be gong after domestic works sooner or later, it might not be just the inexperience thing thats making them reluctant. People could be forgiven for thinking you just wanted a look at how their firm works.
