  1. I have a Miller 150 if your still looking. There is a picture of it on our web site fitted to our tractor.
  2. True. Its another load cr@p which only serves to complicate matters and like previously said can be gained by just about anyone, whearas NPTC etc are more worthwhile. Very rarely are we asked to produce chainsaw, chipper, grinder certs on site, as long as you have CSCS your good to go.
  3. Yes I know, clutching at straws trying to avoid a £300 fine.
  4. In the truck but it belongs to the company.
  5. Taken from the first paragraph in section 1 - Vehicle operations that take place off the public road or vehicles that are never used to carry goods on a public road are out of scope. Taken from the Oxford English Dictionary 'Goods, all kinds of personal property'. As we do not carry personal property (goods) then we must be exempt from EU rules?.
  6. You dont say where you are?. Take a look at David Bowyers web site before you purchase and if you want advice call him. We use the Goldfish in competition and they have been very reliable and quite cheap. I would recommend 11mm Dyneema and forget the steel cable.
  7. Sorry to hear about this and we have experienced similar instances. Was it parked in your yard or left on site.
  8. If you look at the exemptions it makes no reference to the weight of the vehicle or if it is towing a trailer, look at page 27. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Rules%20on%20Drivers%20Hours%20and%20Tachographs%20-%20Goods%20Vehicles%20in%20GB%20and%20Europe.pdf
  9. Dont be daft, I haven't sent it yet:sneaky2:. They got to fight me for it:001_tt2:. I will let you know the outcome.
  10. While towing a trailer with a 7.5 tonner we was stopped at a VOSA checkpoint. The lorry was carrying a chipper and the trailer had a grinder. We had received a £300 fixed penalty for not using the tacho, we was approx 25 kilometers from base. From what I understand we are exempt even when towing a trailer within 50k of base, if you read the exemptions its says no tacho needed and does not mention towing a trailer. I attended a VOSA seminar last week and asked both the traffic examiner and VOSA inspecter about this and neither new the answer which I thought was a bit strange as there are not many exemptions. However, I have since spoken with a T E and she has confirmed that when towing a trailer carrying your own tools in connection with your business within 50k of base and you do not drive more than four hours a day you do NOT need to use a tacho.
  11. I had one with a 6.5 GMC, bit of a tight fit but sounded delightfull and ample power. I have also had a Land Rover with a Perkins which had plenty of torque but not much top end. For power and simplicity of conversion I would say TD5 with a power plug, mine will spin the wheels if I let it and I run 35" tyres, it will happily pull and loaded trailer.
  12. Have you considered a dating agency, probably more coverage for that kind of thing.
  13. I think its in better condition than the one I use every day.
  14. That made me laugh.

  16. Nathan A mate of mine had two saws and a hedge trimmer taken out the back of his van while he was cutting a customers hedge on Friday Nr Kinver. They were in a white transit van. He saw the van pull on the drive and thought it was a delivery for the house. Bob
  17. We have a 7.5 tonne tipper with hiab which can lift a tracked timberwolf 190 onto the bed. I has two tonnes payload. Because we are arborist's that use lorry's, not lorry drivers who work on trees we do not need CPC unless you employ some one specifically as a lorry driver, also we operate on a restricted 'O' license. We do not use a tachograph within 100 km of base because we are exempt. However, whenever you attach a trailer you must use the tacho whatever the distance you travel. You must also do daily drivers checks and keep records for 15 months, you must create a service forecast so you know when each truck is due for inspection, MoT, TAX and insurance. You need to enter into a contract with a mechanic who will carry out the service and maintenance on the truck/s. When you apply for your restricted 'O' license they will want to see the contract along with bank details to prove you have the finacial ability to maintain the truck/s and you will have to place an advert in a local paper saying where you plan to operate from and how many trucks, you can get around this by using another company which already has an 'O' license and put your truck on theirs. I am fairly confident the above is correct because we have just had a spot check (last week) at our yard from VOSA who went through our vehicles and paperwork which took best part of the day.
  18. I have one of these and it is realy hard to notice them, it is possible to disguise them but they could be nicked. They work well and take some intersting photo's
  19. Did it sell at the auction
  20. I think the entrance fee is reasonable if you get it at £13 pre pay discount for a group of ten, £17 on the day is a lot for the working man when you consider he has to pay his fuel to get there but to be fair you can see were the money goes, I hear the matting/walkway was £9 per lin mtr which would be a god send if it did rain. Just because the food is a rip off at other events does not justify it being a rip off at the APF and I think this is some thing the organisers should look at. I took food but got a bit peckish and did give into temptation and bought the Mrs, grandkids and one of the pole lath turners an ice cream @ £2, each, now that is a rip off (I didn't see many people taking their own ice cream to the show). If the organisers do charge £3,000 for a single catering unit then thats where the rip off is. One day is never enough and I thought the show was well organised with plenty to see and do.

  22. I think we coud do with a HSE section on the forum. I had this e mail today from our HSE advisor. I might stop in bed Monday morning:thumbdown: Hi All This is not a wind up!! From the 1st October 2012 if a HSE inspector finds a "Material Breach of Regulation at any workplace in the UK", then they can charge you a fee of £124 per hour for their time in dealing with the matter. This includes: site inspection once the breach has been identified, any follow up research, writing reports, exchanging e mails & checking that improvements have been made etc. This " FEE FOR INTERVENTION SCHEME" as it is called stops when the situation is remedied or other proceedings (Court action) are taken. A "Material breach" is when any aspect of a current regulation is found to be less than acceptable or not meeting the standards required. Improvement or prohibition notices will still be issued as well if deemed necessary of course. Some simple examples are below just to give you an idea of what " Material Breaches" could be: Missing guardrails, toeboards or edge protection Gaps in scaffold more that one board wide Unguarded excavations Uncovered fragile roofs or rooflights Ladders or plant left so that it could be used by unauthorised persons Lifting kerbs & other heavy items manually when mechanical means are available Dry cutting with Abrasive wheel cutters or not wearing the right RPE or PPE Working off a ladder when other access equipment is more suitable Unsecure sites with gaps in fencing or unclipped Heras Throwing items without a safe drop zone Poor or non-existent welfare facilities without washing facilities Poor housekeeping with trip hazards Lack of first aid provision Lack of scaffold or other inspections Machinery used without guards or in poor condition Lack of PPE or not using it Risk assessments & method statements not used, followed or understood Lack of inductions or signage Lack of suitably competent supervisors who know what they are supposed to do The above is not a full list, but ARE FAILURES THAT THAT WE HAVE FOUND DURING RECENT SITE VISITS. Thus we strongly urge you to consider checking your arrangements & standards on site to avoid paying the fees, we are available to carry out site audit visits if you wish- better for us to find fault than the HSE? The good news in this is that there are not very many HSE inspectors & if your workplaces are in good order then a visit may result in being congratulated by the HSE! They are able to give simple advice at no cost if they spot some minor issues only of course.

  24. We recently competed in a competion called King of the Valleys at Walters Arena, Nr Port Talbot, South Wales. it was a two day event over a 19 mile course which you had to drive four time invloving rocks, water sections and forestry tracks. King of the Valleys Friday night was the prologue to ascertain the starting order for the Saturday, we had a slow time and started no30 IIRC. However, we had some good runs and soon moved up to 10th for most of the weekend and finished 13th overall which is a good result considering one axle on some of the trucks is worth more than our truck complete. Saturday was very dry and dusty and Sunday was damp after heavy rain overnight. There was some winching over the rock sections and one or two of the watercourses. The winner was a buggy from Spain, 2nd was a buggy from England, 3rd was a Land Rover from south Wales. most of the top vehicles were Land Rover based.
