  1. The biggest you can put without altering your suspension is 33", above that you will need to fit larger springs and extended brake hose. Insa special tracks are a good tyre but a bit noisy for road work.
  2. We should be having one on demo if they ever find the demo machine.
  3. Is this your first course or is it a follow on.
  4. When I did the Tech Cert all my notes were much the same as the RFS Cert Arb notes just a bit more detail. Still a very worth while course in my opinion.
  5. You are on the ball, it's Forst.
  6. After using Timberwolf for many years and being perfectly happy with them, along came the quadchip and so we bought one and will probably buy another when the time is right, for a trailed chipper they are perfect. However, we are about to purchase a new tracked chipper and we had the quadtrack on demo and as expected it performed very well, but then out of the blue Redwood popped up and asked if they could demo the new Jenson tracked chipper. What can I say, it's like a chipper on steroids, I thought the Greenmech was good and it is but I am afraid the Jenson is head and shoulders above anything else in the tracked 6" class. It weighs in at 1300kgs, is simple yet innovative, easy to use and even easier to maintain.
  7. I try to decifer reports before I go to site and often use google earth and streetview if possible. Quite regular reports produced for planning purposes do not contain information for contractors trying to price the job. I have just priced a job with over 200 trees on site and trying to get a list of trees to be removed from the developer is pretty hard work. They simply give you a copy of the report which will contain all the information and 1000's of £ to produce but it can take hours to read and dissect it all. However, the report in my opening post actualy has work schedule attached even if it did have a phrase I was not familier with.
  8. I haven't been to site yet but it was used many times throughout the report. I guess it will be apparant when I see the trees in the flesh so to speak.
  9. Today while reading a tree survey I have come across the expression 'remove faulted limb'. I can assume it refers to broken limb or limb with defect, anyone heard this or know where it comes from.
  10. Going back to the original post there is a minimum amount of information to work from or to provide advice and therefore assuming the trees are deciduous and have open crowns then it should be quite easy to see a birds nest at the moment so to fell the tree and record the data should be straight forward and acceptable. If the trees have Ivy or are evergreen this would take a bit more care and investigation but due to the fact we are bordering nesting season will take a bit more thought and care. We are still felling trees and will contimue to do so and suspect most people using this forum are. However, where anything maybe contentious we either look/inspect first and if we find anything which resembles a nest we stop and seek advice. For one tree in a back garden it's no so bad, for multiple trees on a development site we would expect an ecologist to have been or be on stand by and so should the developer. If the developer has not already condidered this then
  11. I am thinking we will all be out of work now then until the end of September, that's a better holiday then the school teachers:thumbup1:
  12. Its worth knowing but make sure you register [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPZv_8dABfU&feature=share]"Help Me" The Secrets of using 112 on a mobile phone in an emergency/accident - YouTube[/ame]
  13. Things like this pop up from time to time, it's a bit like the word 'gullible' is not in the Oxford English dictionary yet it pops up in conversation all the time.
  14. I have not seen sight of the condition other than reference by the planning officer. What bugs me is paying £190 (not me but the client) for some thing that would be free if it was a TPO or CA and the trees were not good enough to qualify for TPO otherwise they would have put one on instead of a PC. The planners and tree officer have agreed the trees can go in principal, I think I am just being bloody minded.
  15. I have a client who has a planning condition on some trees which is about to expire later this year. However, some of the trees have deteriorated since the planning condition was imposed and they need some work doing sooner rather than later. The planners want £190 to discharge the condition and have threatened court action if we proceed without their consent. Anyone got an opinion on that.
  16. That's quite true but it doesn't help matters when they give such a punitive response. I think the only saving grace to me is the long maintenance period, the rest is pure waffle. I would like to know if that is actually included within the 2k for the entire period, they must have a very long contract. Contract manager Eddie Fellows said: “It cannot be compared to placing a tree in a park. The highway is a hostile environment for a tree. “Particular species need to be selected, then there are ground works and the impact on utilities to be considered. “The work is carried out on an active highway, then there are accidents and vandalism.” He added that the trees are maintained until 2035.
  17. Very nice work if you can get it. Council contractor Amey charging Birmingham City Council £2,000 for each tree planted - Birmingham Mail
  18. Frustrating but CSCS is the holy grail for construction work, it's the first and quite often the only cert developers ask for. IIRC from Sept this year you will need the arb entitlement which is as stated above is through BALI and around £450 per person.
  19. Your welcome, all gone now thanks.
  20. Timber is Oak, Hawthorn, Alder, Blackthorn, Willow, Ash and Silver Birch.
  21. All of the wood is between 8" and 18" dia x 8' lengths so ideal for a processor, I have a lorry taking two 16 tonne loads off site tomorrow 28/02/2013, if anyone is interested in one or two of the loads please call me Bob 01902 892652 Wood 1.jpg
  22. It's just been felled
  23. Lots still available, mostly hardwood.
