  1. When I've done them I find if I cut the blank about 2"longer than the saw bar then cut along the length of the log rather than down the grain as it cuts faster and noodles the shavings rather than fine dust which is good for helping light the candle, either hold in a log jaw or cut a v in a larger block of wood and sit in that.
  2. Sham I've got ears that those just won't stay in, got a set at home about the same price which are like a pair of ear defenders, no sound escapes so the rest of the house won't suffer my music while typing up work on the laptop.
  3. Not quite as much but still made crossing from swaledale into Wensleydale interesting thismorning. Cold crisp clear morning. Perfect for a quick bit of pricing.
  4. Find out what a new 1 would be and about half that, it'll never drop much more than that if it's in working condition, good machines and easy to work on and fix.
  5. I'm like that with my old landy 130, would take a bad day to get shot of her, just keep rebuilding, not that sentimental about other gear but I think it'd be different if I was selling as I needed to free up money rather than to upgrade, that'd be harder!
  6. On flat rait scheme no you can't claim the vat on fuel or consumables and I believe on hired in equipment only on capital expenditure like vehicle and machinery, not sure how it's an advantage to most of us but my accountant said definitely not worth for me after running my books for the past few years, better of on normal scheme especially since a good 75% of my turnover is comersial or private comersial so making very little difference to them.
  7. I've just had the same but having to back date registration as tipped over the threshold on the rolling 12month basis without realising, talking to the accountant we are actually going to be a lot better off and when I've gon and told some of my regular big clients they have allowed me to send them a backdated vat invoice which is a big relief!! + the reclaim of vat on assets still owned going back 4 years so a decent reanbursment to go into some new bits of gear. Like you said to commercial clients it won't make any difference and private you just give them a total price and it's up to you in you only raise it by say 10% nd swallow the other 10% or just up it by what you think you'll get away with. Another good thing is it will stop me worrying about big hired in plant bills to keep turnover down or just subbing jobs nd taking a skim off the top as I'd tried to avoid that as quickly boosted turnover without mega profit.
  8. Now now we'll have less of that!!
  9. Nice job, looks like something had a good chew at your finger, tree silky or chains?
  10. No its quiet as anything, no wine or clatter at all just a pig to change from high to low and back again.
  11. Cheers bob, I'll go fishing today if I can find my magnet thing. Is it a take apart job to refit or can it be done in situe, the internals of gear box's is new territory for me.
  12. Pictures of a cog inside the transfer box which is very stiff to change between high and low range, don't think it's ment to look like this... Opinions please.
  13. Wise choice, plenty of future work👎
  14. Thought so, came from m b forestry, was tempted by it myself as should be a very useful truck with all those features.
  15. Don't think I could cope with an hour of that without the wife getting suspicious about me actually paying attention to something on telly for a change, nice though maybe just a 1 off special to test it out or even a 5min teaser......please!!!!
  16. Did you get that from up my way or Durham as looks fermillior? Looks a good truck nd something I'd like to look at now iv got a bigger yard and more space to store it.
  17. Something I wanted to do as using the machine more so good for insurance both hired in plant and business as if something happens at least can show some formal training and assessment nd shows a recognised level of machine competence for using them on some of the contracts we take on. Unfortunately only covers to 10ton machines and got to go cpcs after that I believe but rare we need anything bigger than the 8 nd if we do its easier to get a friend in with his 14 or 25 to do it for us nd bill client directly. Good trainer who works for environmental agency so was quite keen on safety and environment side of the test of understanding, definitely worth doing.
  18. Cheers bud, me and that machine are going to get quite used to each other as got a good weeks worth of stacking and sorting timber and building brash cover piles with it in a big hardwood stand we have been on thinning for a few weeks. Got two new extraction routes to dig into the hillside with it as well. Luckily it has a decent radio!
  19. Yes thanks bud, had a few bad habits I needed to keep under control but operating the machine nd doing the tasks were quite strate forward.
  20. Did my Lanta 10ton 360 assessment today at my yard nd made full use of it leveling out 20odd ton of plainings filling pot holes on the drive and turning over the mulch heap. Excellent day 👍
  21. Just seen 1 in village tonight so they still exists.
  22. Absolutely, more power than you can imagine.
