  1. Top man for going for it, if you can still mix it up with helping out other firms either as you are now or as a whole crew in the future it can really help with cash flow, I have no doubt that you'll make it with the commitment to the job your videos put across Best thing I ever did was make the transition to being my own boss, not easy by any means but well worth it! Keep the videos coming and keep us posted how the business venture progresses 👍
  2. Realy to make it anywhere near compliant you will need some kind of micro switch fitted to either kill or prevent the engine from starting when the chute is folded down to prevent contact with spinning parts as my old quadchip had.
  3. I'll third that, crane looks good but found the 1 I used for a while very underpowered especially on the slew rams and struggled with anything bigger than chipwood. Always having problems with the electric controls for the grab and extension. Should add the palms I have had a few go's with was excellent and seemed to perform above its specs.
  4. If your employed the company should provide all the equipment necessary to carry out the work you have been employed to do including tools, ppe and fuel unless you have a pre agreed deal where you provide it but are paid a set allowance for each time it's used but this is rare these days as is open to conflict from both sides. As for legislation Im not sure what exactly would cover if it's just tools your asking about.
  5. Nice looking job John, bet the crane saved some serious amount of time instead of rigging down. Like the fastrac set up, almost looks like the cab was custom made for the crane to sit in dip
  6. Talked about lots Thought about lots Rarely done by the majority 😜
  7. Found this ugly looking toad face on a sycamore yesterday.
  8. Both zigzag and zillion replaced today so back to shiny happy climbing on Monday, cheers gustharts 👍
  9. As long as they are set up well and kept sharp they will take greenery as well as any other chipper, the only thing I found it didn't get on well with was long stringy willow that could ball up behind the rolers and require a bigger bit of timber to push it in. I've used them as both hand feed on a mog and crane feed on a valtra but not set up as fancy as the one above, very nice!
  10. You the dealer for them now Dean? Definitely something on the wish list, nice triple blade with inbuilt pump nd stress controle would sit nicely on my massy nd eat all the unwanted conifer fed in easily by the 360 and grab, bliss!
  11. Sold my quadchip with just over 400hrs nd was perfect apart from a few paint chips, replaced barring at 350hrs as got a bit of play so got done before they become a problem. Difference can be all down to maintance, hopefully a owner operator will care more than a fleet machine, also remember some chippers do that many hrs chipping and others do high hrs running and only a few actually chipping.
  12. Might be worth looking at the 10" farmi chipper as it's a 45degree feed which is good on highways as feeds more from the side and requires less hp to drive, also not a bad price 👍
  13. Yes it will improve chipping capacity but getting it set up as close to the job or as conveniently is much harder to do especially in more domestic locations. If your mostly chipping onto the ground or working on open ground then a 12"pto chipper will demolish anything even on 120hp( more = faster) but a well set up tow behind like a bandit 990 will definitely hold its own and is much easier to set up on a driveway behind the chip truck.
  14. If I had to go back sub 750 I'd not hesitate to get another quadchip, punches well above expectations but like Ian says you'd not want a high hour 2nd hand 1 for continuous use, quite liked the arborist 150 as well. The little vermeer felt like it was going to fall apart and felt cheep compared to its competitors. The tp and schlising on paper look a little lacking in hp but never seen 1 work so don't know and never heard of anyone actually getting a raptor which looks a copy of the quadchip.
  15. The light onto the feed is a good addition and frequently wish we had that on emergency works. Black 150 looks really smart!
  16. Only stuff I NEED you understand 😉
  17. Spoke to gustharts today and said fetch both in and they will replace even though the zillion didn't come from them 👍 Unfortunately that means I'm going to HAVE (if the wife asks) to go see them sat morning to hand it over which normally ends up costing a small fortune in other shiny stuff 🙌
  18. Your problem could be parts if can't find much about them. Looks like It'll be a really good machine if built quality is decent as visibility forwards and backwards looks excellent with the engine under you
  19. Think that's possibly the most important part Mr fowler, lead from the front, as the boss/owner of my company if we have a really shitty job come in I make sure I'm not accidentally off pricing that day but in on it and often doing the bad bit like being up to my nuts in a freezing river setting winch lines on tree wedged against a bridge or like you say up the ivy covered monster that way I know if I ask the lads to do it they know I can and will if they can't and often I find them saying don't worry I'll do this 1 you did the last as mutual respect develops. 1 thing that hasn't been said is standing up for your crew be it to the boss client or just some loud mouth jerk on the street, but do it professionaly and politely.
  20. Good to know, will forward on to a few uses not on here, thanks
  21. Think he means become ineffective at holding the rope and therefore causing the climber to fall uncontrolled. I'm sure someone tried that and the spliced eye of the rope still failed first before the cracked link of the zz did.
  22. Do I need to take them back to place of purchase, zigzag came from gustharts so not a problem but the zillion came from honeys at last arb show so will it have to go back to them or can gustharts exchange it as well?
  23. Will that include the chippers as well or just the firewood products
  24. Mine went today in two places, OK at start of clime and while I was having an idle moment at the top just happened to notice 1 then the other, wounder if the cold can affect it as my zillion also cracked today and I bet the temp never got above freezing all day with us.
  25. That looks perfect and that's what I meant by holding the timber lengthways.
