  1. Second what Steve said, years ago I got myself a little rg13 while I was still employed and did stumps on a night and weekend which made decent money for the outlay involved, was especially good as no-one else around here had one that could handle restricted access so ended up grinding for other local company's.
  2. Well done bud, just asked you that on tube before I'd seen your post on here, are the helpers guys you normally work for and are friendly enough to help out on your own jobs?
  3. Bet that wallowed a bit!
  4. If it's built like the splitters it'll have plenty of mettle holding it together, keep us posted if you do get 1 as I'm looking for a decent pto winch as well for a upcoming job and want to avoid the over priced iglands!
  5. Seen them even around our town, funny video Steve.
  6. As a 1 off item worth over 20k yes it sounds about right. I've got mine covered as part of a combined policy with arborisk covering my liabilities, my plant, hired in plant, and small tools which works out hundreds less than having individual policy's. Worth giving them a call.
  7. Had two old blokes on motor bikes come through our road closure last week using the excuse that if they could fit between the cones they could get past the work, to say I had words would be slightly understated as years ago had a bloke do the same and dropped 60kg + lump of beech from 30ft onto the headlights of his bike, 10" more and that'd have been his neck and dead! Sparked him out but he was OK in the end. So I'm quite sensitive about these things. Like said postys and ups vans are realy bad for it and old blokes on rubber band push irons in stupid color tight tops just think they are above it all and much harder to stop than a vehicle.
  8. No body mentioned bobcat, any reason why? Just been using a 8 ton with my grab on stacking large hardwood thinnings before extraction and found it a very nice smooth stable machine for this job.
  9. Good to see the battery saw getting a good workout 👍 Amazing how capable they are even on a dismantle. Subscribed for more.
  10. Slight twist on this but I feel might be relevant in a way is iv just had to realy justify myself to the council today as I wanted to take my mewp onto council land to aid in deadwooding a large private oak that over hangs the footpath and playing field, the council have instructed the owner to have the work done or they will appoint someone and rebill her. All the dead is on the very branch ends mostly less than 2cm diameter so almost impossible to climb and get it all yet they didn't want me on their land, got permission in the end but had to climb the foodchain and argue the point quoting icop and HSE best practice etc to get it! Madness!!
  11. Had a Starbucks last week and all I can say is nasty! Costa I'm sure used to be nicer before going as big as it is now but I still endure a cup when the need arises , grumpy mule blend for me at home, very nice!
  12. Like jla said it's down to training and experience, just look at how long it takes to become ticketed and deemed combatant to climb and dismantle a tree not to mention the progression of difficulty level you'll be asked to undertake by an employer... Mewp-ipaf- 1day if your lucky 2 and crack on, normally with a git of a tree. Working efficiency with 1 takes time like climbing you have to learn good work position and a sequence of doing things which is often different to when climbing. I tend to find the people who hate mewps either don't use them often so find it harder to change working methods or have been presented with the wrong machine and thus had a difficult time with it. Yes I agree they are not the right thing in every situation be it location or even cost but definitely not the wrong thing to use in every situation.
  13. Just picked up a 2nd hand quadtech back for my 130 as going to get rid of the HC tub nd fit this on as a gear carrier and call out vehicle, new doors ordered and a few more bits to revive the old girl, going to repaint her as well to hopefully, eventually look a little like this picture, any advice on spraying or painting the plastic of the back body?
  14. We have had a few local authoritie jobs where a mewp was in the job spec due to storm damage or decay but no reason the trees couldn't have been felled with a road closure but if they want to pay, fine. It's more when I spec correct traffic management and pedestrian controls and B comes along with a lad in a vizy vest waving his arms at the traffic and 3 cones that I get annoyed. I use mewps a lot and hence own 1 as it suits the work we do and is more for ease and speed than for safety although I do believe not being knackered ringing down a big stem will make it safer. Some jobs I charge for it being there some I don't but it makes it faster so we make more that way others it'd be a PITA and in the way so we climb, as said it's all down to how you assess the job. To add iv been on the receiving end of sour grapes and had another contractor try and stir it with a large client after my bid was excepted and not his which was purely down to the size of equipment we took to the job making it far faster.
  15. Like someone said, size isn't everything.
  16. You're a star, I'm more than likely going to take you up on that offer as the way the wife is talking it's a when not an if anymore! Thats a pto chipper out the window for a while I guess but having a work space at home out the lounge will be nice.
  17. Last but 1 is a really nice image, black and white of winter trees just works so well, if we get to afford the house extension nd another bedroom to turn the box room into my office I'd want something like that quite big infront of my desk 👍
  18. Nice Is that a blue 6x6 landy in some of the shots? Yours?
  19. End of financial year so trying to make a bit extra profit and a running on red conviction is quick easy and takes little further investigation with a decent fine!
  20. You will find it fills better if you turn the feed speed down a little Mick, say around 3 with the forst, it looks slow but you can keep piling stuff in and hardly have the stress controle come in and the chip just pores out butifully often have ours side by side like this and tend not to loose much at all.
  21. Nice Going to make a effort this summer to get some drone footage done and into my videos
  22. Often don't chip nd just stack in a safe place to come back in daylight to clear up properly but we have had angry people in pj's going mad at 3am when we have had the need to clear a road in the middle of a village, always a good laugh 😁
  23. 540xp then back to a 201 what's going on 😉 Cool work, looks tiring up N down on spikes like that but at least no tidy up.
  24. We use the back handled battery saw as a chipper saw as it's so quick to pick up nd just nip a bit off to help feed it in rather than pull starting a cold saw for a 3sec cut and the top handle is definitely a favorite for pruning especially reductions as light and lovely to use at full stretch if needed, also used them for nighttime call outs around homes where the saws have become known as the stealth saws because of the lack of noise, can't wait till technology allows them to make something of 560xp power with an hour's run time.
  25. We think it's about 6-8ton from what we can find out, never stopped it pulling yet as without chocks it just drags the truck around 1st.
