  1. "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"?
  2. I noticed this too. Yakutsk was -53C in mid January, which is cold even for them, but then last week it was up to -15C. Not saying i knew the significance, but I did wonder if it meant we might get a cold snap, so thanks for posting it.
  3. Some good advice so far and I think this link has been posted before but it's worth reading. Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power Now I'm not saying i agree with it, but I've always made sure I get the saw (or any engine for that matter) loaded up from the start. I don't find the biggest wood and lean on it, but I make sure it's doing some real work. Vary the revs too and don't idle it for too long.
  4. Writtle College.
  5. The last 2 have been really good. Amazing photography.
  6. Who'd have though
  7. No, it's a picture of a brand new saw being sold on ebay by somebody who's only been a member for 4 months and from a residential address. Nothing there to quash my fears! Now at then end of the day, this may well be totally "genuine". But personally there's too much doubt in my mind to throw 5 or 600 pounds to somebody I've never heard of, when for maybe just a few hundred more I could have one from a dealer that I KNOW does not have any hidden history. You can't tell me that there isn't the tiniest bit doubt in your mind? The disc cutters are cheap... might chance may arm on one of those
  8. You will not hear truer words than these.
  9. Wow, but the words rat and smell have already sprung to my mind.
  10. If he has a preferred contractor, but still got 2 other quotes just for a small job, then he's got PITA written all over him.
  11. Agree that testing may be pointless now, but you could try putting a few drops of the mix on blotting paper. As the fuel evaporates it should leave the lubricating oil on the paper.
  12. That's up there with some of the most skillful things I've seen. Still got scars on my elbows from when I'd wheelie and come off the back of my BMX
  13. I bought a Petzl belay device that had make in UK on it.
  14. I was driving to Dundonnell in the NW highlands last Thursday when the storm hit. I saw 958 mb on my altimiter watch at sea level.
  15. Yes, you can adjust the filing angle from 0 to +/- 10 degrees for Husqvarna/Oregon chains.
  16. Don't forget the cake! I suggest fruit, lemon drizzle and chocolate
  17. Gold bars Rocky bars come a close second.
  18. Yes, very true. Sheep on the other hand..... always coming across piles of wool and bones under cliffs when out in the hills.
  19. Wonder how many dead or limping ones there are at the bottom. Pretty amazing though.
  20. I travel a lot with rock or ice climbing kit. Most airlines will let you carry 1 bag at 23 kgs and for £30-50 you can pay for another. 3 bags between 2 is ample even if we're going ice climbing for 2 weeks with camping gear and snow shoes and shovels. Ryanair's 15 kg allowance is more challenging, but they will NEVER beat me even if I have to wear 10 layers and boots on the aircraft. I've got one of those fishing type hook scales to weigh bags. i've been in some small airports before where they have closed off all the check-in desks except the ones in use, so you can't weigh your kit in a quiet corner. Sending kit ahead can be a lot of hassle. I've been charged Customs brokerage fees even when marked as "return of used personal effects" and my wife works for a cargo airline!
  21. I use the lightweight Petzl Tikka 2 for mountaineering. We often set out really early at 1 or 2 in the morning, climbing for hours in the dark, with just the small Tikka. The bigger Myos would awesome. Wife likes the Black Diamond Icon.

    Old petrol?

The risk of it being off is low, but the possible consequence is high (rebuild). Bung it in the mower, that's what I do... smells a bit, but it's OK. Incidently, a neighbour has a 2 stroke strimmer that hardly ever gets used. The fuel must be 2 years old. It starts and runs perfectly!
  23. Don't baby it. Use it and load it up to seat the rings properly, but avoid full throttle out of the cut and idling it for too long apart from to warm it.
  24. Wood is "Green Gold" you know.... for some anyway
  25. Yes, that's a fair comment, but if you put the big dogs on it then you may as well. Yes the bar fits and I'm pretty sure it works with the chainbrake handle. On the 660 there is a different brake handle for the 3/4 wraps bars.
