  1. went to askham bryan after a levels for two years of an hnd in hort with a specialisation in arb, left there to go do an nc in arb at houghall college in durham then worked at a posh hotel in the grounds and as general dogsbody for the next two and half years before spending six months in essex in 2002 as a junior gardener on an estate, six months on the dole so i decided to set up my own business so been going six years now doing gardening and tree work. Always loved trees and the outdoors though due to all the men on my mums side of the family being gardeners or woodsmen of some description going back to the 1800's.

  6. all you need is a brightly coloured jacket in say yellow or green or purple, create a few cheesy dance moves and you're all set to be one of the background blokes on the flight deck scenes from top gun.

  8. got to be taxus baccata (yew) for me especially the really old ones like at aberglasney. if only trees could talk, the stories they could tell would be amazing i'm sure.
  9. i nearly went to writtle college to study landscape design but fortunately got put off by the fact that i would have to wear cream chinos all the time even in the middle of winter. everyone at the course open day apart from me was wearing cream chinos:scared1::scared1:

    the college will have all the gear you need to start with and you will soon learn whats good and what isn't.

  13. thats nastily quick then. i can see why matt still shudders at the thought you could have been in it the night before and that happening. As long as nobody's injured apart from the garage that did the work.

  17. looks a nicer jobsite compared to your last one Ed, especially with the humidity we've had. bet it was nice and cool under those trees.

  20. could that be one of the reasons elm was traditionally used for coffins then, xerxses? i know it was used for ships masts as it was strong and flexed enough that it didn't snap under the tension and torsion of the sails.

  22. the learning centre on there is quite good for diagrams of knots by use.
  23. not really seen any this year in leeds but have seen loads of bees including the big lumbering bumbles. Saw a couple of pine wasps at the yorkshire show:scared1:.
