  1. exactly steve. i do a bit of everything with my business including what many would class as tree work.
  2. sometimes the blokes doing the rotovating are the horticultural variety of brash bitches and just put their head down and get on with the job they are given. Unfortunately a designer will probably not even have a clue with regards to what is being planted or what is being retained plant wise.
  3. As somebody who has a gardening business although i did an nc in arb at houghall college in durham after doing an hnd in horticulture but specialising in arb at askham bryan college matt, you'll be pleased to know this is how i work. I still do smaller trees myself as it means i can keep my hand in and i also totally agree with you on most gardeners not knowing an epicormic from an aesculus especially since the recession bit and all the brickies who were laid off have started driving around with their lawnmowers and chainsaws from b&q in an estate car doing jobs for a fiver an hour or whatever:mad1:
  4. i have the same engine in my citroen dispatch and it really only gets used for short times travelling from job to job but as you say totally bombproof and easily cruises at the ton with a back full of logs and brash and all my gear:001_tongue:
  5. i think a lot of the members on landscapertalk were/are also members on here so they were getting the advice they needed on here for the most part i think. shame really as it had the capability (pardon the pun:blushing:) of been taken to a higher level as arbtalk has
  6. i have a few mates in the forces and i dread that one day it could be one of them coming back and going on the final drive through wooton bassett and being honoured by the locals and their name going on the wall at the National Memorial Arboretum which is why i signed the Royal British Legion's Honour the covenant petition last year.
  7. sorry to hear about this mate. just last night i caught two little scrotes trying the back door of my 90, they even tried to bluff it out by saying they hadn't done anything when i had blatantly seen them when i walked into my front room with my dinner on a tray (which was placed on the table securely before haring after the little ***)
  8. we had the murphy lads near us last year and you can hardly tell where the pipeline is now apart from the new fencing where the road crossing points were, considering the size of the trench they were digging and the equipment that was moving around.
  9. if he had half a brain he'd be deadly.
  10. doesn't a certain australian gentleman whose name should not be mentioned on arbtalk use the footplates?
  11. never do owt for nowt unless its for thisen:sleep1:
  12. :confused1: or am i just totally missing the point here after numerous pints of wadworths Strong in t'arm?
  13. along a similar vein "A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat" or ' "Watch out" said the blind man to the deaf man as he fell down a hole'
  14. not exactly regional but one i like: If it doesn't work after been hit with a big hammer it's probably electrical.
  15. last line means "and if she isn't gone, she's sat there now" at a guess
  16. hope all who are unfortunate enough to have caught it are back on their feet soon.
  17. i'm going to have to get a smaller dog!!
  18. whats green and come sout of your nose at 200+mph? A lambogreenie:001_tongue:
  19. what do you call a chinaman who can eat noodles with one chopstick whilst standing on his head? Foo kin cleva
  20. or use some polypipe like the councils do then all long handled tools are contained but accessible.
  21. there was some jobs been advertised by scottish and southern energy doing line work but i think the closing date is friday so might be a bit late now. Have you tried arbjobs, complete tree care etc? There's also jobs appear in hort weekly from time to time so perhaps get a subscription going with that?
  22. good thing it says strawberry cheesecake at the top as i thought it was GARLIC BREAD!
  23. same make as the jcb toughphone, in fact i think it might even be the same phone just different colours. IP rating of 67 which is the highest ever rated phone for resisting ingress of dust, water and resisting shock (note use of word resisting. tried the pint trick with my old siemens m65, ended up having to buy a samsung m110 solid.)
