    i think the theory is that lower is better but i would tend to go a bit higher if on a windy site.

    sordin red and grey chipper spec ones on the helmet and black and red peltor ones for mowing etc or peltor radio ones. carl

    some of the saws would be used in the same way including an ancient ms260 that is on its original needle bearing. got two echo 501,s now and they seem fine.

    great vid and really intresting concept, must be some serious forces on the top speedline rope and its two anchor points. carl

    id say more to do with a faulty batch of 261,s rather than the type of usage as no other saw that ive used needs a new needle bearing every 2 weeks, obviously the less you use the brake or leave it idling will help but thats not the point. carl.

    the work one has loads of new new bearings and a new clutch drum but has worn the crank beyond use. not great for a saw thats about a year old. repair shop said it will be about 400 euro to fit a new crank!!!

    i thought a worn bar was mainly the groove becoming to wide for the drive links to fit snuggly?? how can you referb that? carl

    if your not sure just call the electric company, no point taking chances around electric lines. carl

    i dont have tons of experience with different chippers but the tracked jensens at work seem to do the job well without too many break downs. have you considered a tracked machine? i think they are the best thing ever... no more draggin. carl

    you could try and get a second opinion regarding a repair, some of the things the mechanic sound a bit odd to me. how is the saw otherwise? you will need to weigh up the cost of repairs vs new saw. i would think you should get more than 5 yrs out of a saw. i would imagine that size saw would suit your needs. lucky bugger with 10 hecters of woodland in france, where abouts? carl

    ive got carbon geckos, my mates got the ali ones. both happy with them

    dont know that much about these machines but i do know the radiator is on the piss on the one at work. ( and it works fine) shout if you want me to check anything in detail, carl

    what ground control mesures do you put in place to stop someone, or a curious neighbors kid walking into the dropzone?? signs, cones. i cant see how anybody can argue that its just as safe with no groundy. why not get in a groundy? i would have thought there would be a queue of people wanting to work and learn from reg. i really enjoy and respect regs work and vids , so iam not having a go, just disscussing it as i assume he intended as he posted it here. carl

    thanks for sharing. id be worried about the dropzone being safe from the public, that second set of eyes can be important at times, ive lost count how many times ive had to tell people to keep away. carl

    def not a load of twaddle imo just a detailed post about the safety of configuring your own climbing system out of different pieces of gear that may or may not be designed to work that way, thanks for posting carl

    wish that was the case round here, ordered a echo tophandle delivered to my door from italy for literally half what i was quoted locally!! try to shop local but sometimes just doesn't make sense.

    i saw them on a few french garden machinary sites a little while back but i guess one would have to ring to confirm. lovely little saw, hope mine lasts a while yet.

    the echo cs501 sx is also a good saw, similar sort of size.
