er i didnt say srt climbing was essential! i thought a foot assecender was essential for srt climbing?? maybe some people use just spikes when dismantling on an srt sytem. the spike assender is out of my budget but id say its a nice bit of kit though.

i think one of the main reasons people buy the spike assecnder is for use with srt climbing systems where a foot assender is essential.

yep id agree with that, especialy the tracked chipper bit, rarely take chip away with it, ( rural area mind)

tried to cut a mossy concrete pipe once, which was stupid enough but then to make sure everyone new i was an idiot i edged up the saw and did it all over again on the same pipe!!!

check out the echo 360 tes, seems to get good reviews on here, iam happy with mine although havent really used it much. not as good as a stihl 201tcm id say but around half the price so if your on a budget it may suit. i have no experience with makita saws. carl

cool thanks for the detailed reply, i think i will change it as i do a fair bit of towing crap round our hilly 4 acre garden. ive just got some 5w 30 as i read that was right but shall change it for the 5w 50 as i imagine replacing it with the wrong oil would be highly counter productive! thanks again for the info. carl

i have a john deere lx 279 with a tufftorque k62 gearbox , just wondering wether it is wise to change the oil as it hasent been done for a while? thanks carl

i have a john deere its old 1999! seem very well built, decks starting to go but with its age and the fact the grass is always wet id say fair enough. mine is a mulch only deck and i find it hates long grass which is a pain if you miss a cut. carl

hi iam after a " freedom 42" mulching deck to fit a jd lx 279 ride on mower, just need the shell ideally as rust has almost killed mine. thanks carl

DK800 B&S Wood Chipper with 15cc, 4 stroke gasoline engine. Professional Use. anyone use on of these?? look kind of well made for the price ( well in the photos!) carl

just googled it and it appears he did ,i have read of a few over the years, id imagine only when rigging.

a mewp is just another tool available for the job i dont think there is anything stupid about choosing the tool you feel is best suited to the job. trees are crazy strong but also can ( rarely) fail whilst being worked on. carl

interesting logic is it best to set up the mewp the night before for extra stability

do a half way measure! get in the mewp then rig off big bits to find out how strong the tree was!!! if they are happy to pay then its going to make your job easier and safer then why not. good luck with it. carl

my first question would be -what qualifications and experience do you have? working on windblown, storm damaged trees on the road around traffic and the public, id say you would want to be competent, i certainly wouldnt rely on the public keeping a safe distance away. maybe your talking little country lanes etc, not sure. another issue is are the remaining trees safe to let people pass? carl

its funny all these swl mbl mbs etc , whilst i look at them all and take them seriously and try and use the appropriate gear, i can honestly say i have never once known the weight of anything i have ever lowered or the force of any pull in my whole time doing tree work.! any one else agree or do some people have accsess to dynometers ?? would love to have one for a few days. carl

i use the non ce marked stuff find its nice, very static which makes srt assents easier , nice enough on the hands and a really bright colour in the tree. seems to work well with the lockjack too.

i guess the digger would have an advantage of lifting rather than dragging through muck in terms of future milling cutting. love diggers in tree work, just make it so easy! dam need to learn to type quicker lol.

a new silky zubat in new scabbard thats kept clean should rarely fall out. think i had a samuri brand once but wasnt as nice as a silky, cheaper tho! -
with that kinda lowering device id get a impact block and 19/20mm dead eye sling as main anchor then get a swing cheek rigging pulley with either a small dead eye sling or cheaper purple 1 ton endless loop sling for a second positional anchor and probably a 13/14mm lowering rope. you could also look on the arb shops at their complete kits for ideas on compatible gear. carl
