An old fridge unit and dehumidifier will be cheaper to set up and give bigger capacity IMO
  3. Saw should be fine although I'm not familiar with the mill... Prob your max bar would be around 36" though...
  4. I think a lot of us are.... At least you know not to do anything else for him. Actions speak louder than words and things like this tell you a lot about people.
  5. They are both very good bars but bear in mind milling with this size bar in big wood is tough on all components compared to using smaller bars. The cannon bars a little lighter than the GB ones and are perhaps a little more flexible. Durability wise they are about the same as each other in my experience.
  6. Softwood will be a doddle to dry after all the oak and elm you've been drying! Do the local sawmills sell kiln dried douglas? I'd be surprised if they do.... In which case you should have a good advantage.
  7. Ta! I thought so
  8. You don't really have specific milling bars 48". The Stihl 47" ones are ok but the solid nose on them does sap some power (I have one second hand only done 2 hours work for £130-00+vat). The GB ones are good £225-00 heavy and solid - sprocket nose Cannon are also good £245-00 - sprocket nose What saw do you have?
  9. Still will be interesting to see who still has logs left in March. Let everyone else do the panic bit.... as said winter hasn't arrived yet. I've only come across one person who still had logs left after last winter. I've never made it through a season yet with dry logs to spare. In some ways you want to have a tiny bit left over so you can keep your customers. I turned 80 enquires away last year..... they must have gone elsewhere and some will have stuck to their new supplier.
  10. Still very slow for me averaging around 10 cube a week (but only 2 cube last week )... But it's still very mild here at the mo.
  11. On a business level arbtalk has boosted my alaskan mill site and I get a lot of referrals on... also people can have a browse and look at what people have made on here. Also met a good bunch of like minded people on here.
  12. Great story Mark.... I really like those new evoke range rovers esp the 2 door ones in white.....
  13. You could have had some ab cracking planks out of the first big fat section..... rare to get them that size.
  14. I prob never post half the stuff I write and the other half I usually always re read before posting - just stops that knee jerk reaction that can sometimes cause offence.....
  15. I've done it
  16. Someone found your username and password and put some rude/inappropriate posts in!
  17. What was your name again crazy cutter? I may have given the discount but if I didn't I'll sort you a juicy one on next order. I never offer over the phone as it's a genuine discount only for arbtalkers.
  18. That's excellent - something very creepy about the expression - very dark!
  19. Ditto!
  20. Had numerous dealings with F R Jones and out of all the other companies I've used over the years they are the best in terms of price and service.... Also they are more proactive in the bigger picture when they hosted their first show (paid for out of their own pocket). .... will continue to do business with them
  21. To get a logo done properly then really you need to see a branding/design agency. It's not cheap but if it lasts you 10 years money well spent.
  22. Good stuff - If you can give yourself plenty of time to assemble. There's some vids I did somewhere in the alaskan mill sub forum of putting your mill together which should help.
  23. I feel for him there. A good friend of mine had this a year ago.... it's a very serious condition where a portion of bowel gets inflamed and bleeds. My mate had the section removed in the end as he was needing blood transfusions where he was losing so much blood. Then had a colostomy bag for a few months..... then a reversal (where they join the bowel back together again). He is now pretty much back to normal. Hope you get better soon Andy and hopefully you won't need the op.
  24. It shows how empty my life is that I managed to sit through that until the (bitter) end!
  25. Very nice Ray and a good selection of styles
