  1. We've now got 8 IP cameras and they are very good. They function as normal cameras and I have 4 hooked up to a monitor. They are good resolution and also have (limited) night vision. When I get a chance I'm going to stick up a thread on how they work as you can watch them anywhere you're near a wifi on your iphone. But there is hassals in getting this working.....
  2. Ho Ho will do Mark - cheers, Rob

  3. And cheerfully boring in with it! I'm sure they could have milled that into much neater quarters!
  4. It is indeed! I really only keep in touch with a couple of people someone called Paul Hilder and another called Dan Minns.... no one on the course but then I prob wasn't there enough to get to know people that well! Still the next uni I went to got a 2:1 in occupational therapy although only practiced for 18 months....

    Stihl EZ file

No not sure I do either but thought I'd put it up and perhaps one of the industry types on here would set me right! Close ups of the different round files as below. I've e-mailed vallorbe as you never know.... So which ones do you prefer and why?
  6. Alright Mark it does sound weird and it's true! Failed my first year of mech engineering, was not allowed to go home and lived in a caravan in the uni car park for the summer and delivered pizzas!! In a very round about way ended up here!

    Did you pass your degree?

  7. Core blimey mister that's amazing almost looks photoshopped on there. Great pic well done.
  8. Cheers for the feedback
  9. Cheers I am now doing a slightly revised discount of 4% but free shipping over £100-00 on the chainsawbars.co.uk website so works out as similar money off. Just register your account, let me know by PM or e-mail you've done it and I'll set the discount. If you're living outside mainland UK I'll set the discount higher as it's then not free over £100.... I know this sort of seems complicated but sometimes people have a lot of trouble getting in touch with me and so I'm hoping it'll automate things.
  10. I'd still say has got a bit of water in it.... even if something is dead standing it just does not lose much water out the trunk... I've milled oak that has been dead, fallen over in a field for 20 years and still moist timber inside.
  11. A bit of a small saw for the Alaskan.... I'd be tempted if you can find a bigger saw if possible as it'll make all the difference.
  12. Just put it in stick (stacked and with battons equally spaced between the wood) make sure is out of direct light if you can and under cover. For a kiln an old freezer body and dehumidifier work well.
  13. It's an interesting topic.... I think the AA have come along way with their scheme to allow smaller businesses gain approved status - I don't know how this has been received though?
  14. Cracking bit of kit I made a small table like this the other day and didn't look nearly so good as this.... I'll try again i think with some more interesting bits as you have the proportions better than I had them.

    Stihl EZ file

Oh I see... They are all really pretty much the same... I'd stick to the Stihl ones if they work fine for you. The Oregon ones and vallorbe file guides are pretty much identical.... or lookswise to me anyways!

    Stihl EZ file

I dunno really. All files stihl, oregon and vallorbe are all the same and are all made by vallorbe. They just have a different name on them that's the only difference (or so my sources tell me). The filing guides are good - Products for the category: Filing guides for getting the chain teeth the same length but if you're out and about or in a hurry you'll hate them! Notice the oregon and stihl ones are identical apart from the colour and price! I tend to still use round files but use the granberg12 volt sharpeners when in the field for speed.... Products for the category: 12 volt sharpeners .... there's nothing out there that stands out head and shoulders above the rest - more horses for courses!! I use a range of stuff and they all work.

I think they're 2 pretty different things as Powersharp is good but never really cuts as well as normal chain - I've done a vid for Powersharp which I'll put up in a sec. The EZ file with normal chain will prove cheaper by far in the long run if you know how to sharpen a chain. Powersharp is really for the home owner who bins a chain after it goes blunt the first time!

    Stihl EZ file

I'd say it's ok and does a good job but not revolutionary .... The hassal is you have to buy a whole new EZ file for different chain sizes so better off with just one for the main size chain you sharpen. But it does def save time and once you get the hang of it the depth guages are always set as you're sharpening. It's the sort of thing some people will love and never look back and others will hate IMO
  20. A vid I did for chainsawbars website but better posted here. It's quite good in that it shows the whole process. Was a bit knackered when I made this on a blowy day but it's a handy one if you're a complete novice to chainsaw milling.
  21. Oh I see what you mean.... yes could be one again for the future but the trouble is it's a lot of work for what prob is a pretty small market..... But put it down in my 'food for thought' pad
  22. Could maybe look into harvester stuff at a later date as well but do you think there would be much of a market for them? i.e. bars, chains and sprockets for harvesters?

He's not a fave of mine but you go and have yourself a rare good ol time Mr Bolam! Will you be wearing your Stetson?
  24. As this is more a sponsored forum I'll be posting vids of products regularly. Some of these vids may seem condescending and some may think "he's talking downright rubbish....." Either way if you can pull a couple of bits of useful info from them there's no harm been done! First is the Stihl EZ file which takes depth guages down the same time as you file the chain. It works pretty well although still not an ideal solution.... IMO there still needs to be a tool for doing the most tedious job of sharpening which is accurately reducing depth guages on a chain. They can be found on CSB site here Products for the category: EZ file [ame] [/ame]
  25. Thanks - yes what you can do is make your order up online and go all the way through to the payment page. Then when it's asking you card type hit the small cancel button. This generates the order then I can call you back to collect card details and will send Royal Mail.
