  1. That's a really original piece of carving very nice work - very modern looking.
  2. I used to climb on may own (with a groundie) when I was less experienced. Now I'm more experienced I always climb with someone who can do aerial rescue - you'd think it would be the other way round.... If you asked yourself this question - you're helping out a friend in their garden. If you have an accident in the tree and you're knocked out or can't get down by yourself - what's the plan? The only person who can help you is another climber. Most of us bend the rules, assess risk and make decisions not totally inline with HS. I'm one of them. But these days I always do any climbing with a another climber on hand.
  3. I've enjoyed watching X factor this time around... ...er nothing to feel that ashamed about ok maybe a little! I bet there's plenty more on here that watch it and won't admit it!
  4. Welcome to the forum This forum in itself has I'd say been a big help for keeping up with new ideas and working out which system is right for you. T'internet's not all bad!
  5. I agree - he can't sing... but I think Simon and Gary have a 'soft' spot for some of the lads sometimes.... I mean look at that mate Steve who won it that year and couldn't sing at all... ... he had plenty cosy evenings round the dinner table with Simon though!!
  6. I have an old climbing rope you can use as a lowering rope, a couple of slings and a handsaw. PM me your address and phone number and I'll send em over.

    Sleep

Again don't eat after 8pm.... I find this can keep me awake. Yoga - won't be an instant fix and you need a good teacher (there's a lot of bad ones out there.... very bad!). But over a few weeks you should see the benefits. Get into a good sleep routine. I.e. watch telly, clean teeth, read in the same order and amount each night. No cat napping or dozing - some people do well napping and others don't..... I find if I doze at 7pm for 30 mins it's harder to get to sleep.

    Iveco??

I've got a 35c Iveco and it's been pretty good - would get another... Body work could do with some improvement to get away from the rusty yellow highway image I've spent 3 years cultivating!!
  9. Has anyone tried these pole saws? http://www.cuttingedgesaws.co.uk/catalogue/CEuk_Catalogue_2011.pdf Not got one but saw them at a show ad thought they looked better built than the silkys...
  10. Dave sort of stole your thunder on that one Dean eh!
  11. No just the good ol get in there and I'm going to hurt you boy sort of physio!! Ho Ho! But it now seems to be paying off - my fault as I never tackle it when it starts to reappear again and let it get so it disrupts work then I do something about it
  12. I've had tennis elbow the last 3 months if that makes you feel better Tom! Finally seems to be going away with twice a week physio.... Never had shin splints - but sounds nasty Not sure what the remedy is.
  13. Liked the eucalyptus - also flowed nicely from one action to the next.

    the new pups

Excellent! If it was up to me dogs would stay pups and cats kittens!
  15. I think the Alaskan is a good entry level mill and combined with the mini mill you can pretty much go on any site and plank whatever you like. Logosol seems (not used one regularly myself:blushing: but seen it plenty of times) better for regular softwood and to build up to an M7 more a static set up where you bring the logs to the mill rather than vice versa. Also better for sawing thinner planks with the logosol lo pro system (which only they have - bars manufactured by GB in Australia). Either way I think even if you had both you'd still use both. I'm more biased towards the Alaskan - but hardly surprising that is it! If you do want an Alaskan remember you get 10% off all prices (this is an offer only open to Arbtalk members).
  16. Welcome to the forum and well done introducing yourself
  17. Depends on what you're looking to achieve. If it's going to be expensive I'd go down the route of a big urn and self service and just have it as a freebie... there's something more friendly about an urn and also you have more control of strength of coffee! This would also help generate more of a 'pop in' for a cuppa type feeling. Have a £1 penalty box for those caught spilling things and not clearing up properly after themselves. That could help fund it!
  18. I've had a look and it seems to say it takes around 9 or 10 weeks to get an OL.... So that's going to be tricky!
  19. If you can do the CS30 course.... if you feel this is too much money try and find someone qualified to give you an over view of using a chainsaw correctly and how to maintain it. Also chainsaw trousers, boots and helmet are essential equipment so if you don't already own them budget for buying them.
  20. Yep... it's heart breaking but sort of liberating as well... It's easy to become a miser sitting on his planks of wood and gaining comfort just from knowing they're there!
  21. You could always mill into as thick a planks as you can move, 2.4m long and put on a double pallet - I can arrange to get collected. They may not come out that well but like you most of the stuff I make is rustic.... PM or give me a call on 07811611457 if you like. Happy to do a deal on some resin/chainsaw gear as part of it. Maybe have a closer look and get a few more pics.
  22. As above they will get found out over time. Keep pushing your quality over their quantity. I know someone who was looked at by trading standards for selling bulk bags as cubic meter bags.... a customer had called Trading Standards and complained. Mind you not much happened to them as a result
  23. Matty I got the same for a while about nice bits of timber but you have to keep moving it on IMO. Once you start hoarding it seems to put a block on you getting more interesting wood in. But I know what its like - you'd rather know that timber is there than have the money in your pocket  When I get a chance I'll stick a vid up using that resin.
  24. It's a shame what happened but it looks like there could be some incredible planks out of that....
  25. Same here - I have a better set up each year. If you sell logs you will get a few people moaning - it goes with the territory.
