  1. Rather than buy or swap the parts why not unbolt the swivel housings and change the whole housing cv joint and shaft in one go. 6 or so bolts to remove only, just replace the paper gasket. Stick with a LR axle. Not Disco. or find a LR breaker .
  2. sell sell sell. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PILE-OF-LOGS-FOR-OPEN-FIRE-OR-BURNER-CYPRESSES-xx_W0QQitemZ330248388103QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330248388103&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  3. You cant if they decide to go off and start up on their own. The perpetual problem encountered by large firms. The cream who earn you the money subsidise the average and are soon off to earn the bosses rate not the workers rate.
  4. There would be another 2 foot of wood in the butt instead of on the stump if you knew how to bend over. Single butts are relatively worthless as most buyers and mills want a lorry load at a time. If you could get it to a sawmill the starshake in the butt , the decayed sapwood and the big knot halfway up the stick detract from the saleability, you may get low grade or fencing price. You could find someone to buy 7x7 or 8x8 gateposts from you then get it sawn up in place with a wood mizer or similar. Your best bet though looks like a lot of logs at £70/m3
  5. You need to park down the road and make sure your belongings are insured.
  6. Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria araucana ) I have done crown cleaning and take downs of this horror of horrors. This beats all hands down and I have climbed Robinia, Hawthorn, Blackthorn and trees filled with climbing roses.
  7. Poplar burns like a bowl of pi$$. mix it with some dry leylandii
  8. I'm not sodding surprised it "came over OK" with a winch that size. This is how things are with my winch refurbishment. I cant say how much I have spent on 8 bearings, 2 short shafts made, a second winch for those hard to find odds and ends even more pressing, turning and parts engineered. cos the wife may see this, but its more than the whole tractor and winch cost me 8 years ago. Its slow but
  9. my first rope was 3 strand and it came from a chandlers on Poole Quay. ...those where the days ..... ...men from boys..... etc ad tedium.
  10. Does that mog need a gearbox? I would think so by looking at the bare flywheel.
  11. Would any damage by non existent roots be an "act of God"?
  12. Quite right, its blatant disregard for the fundamental of local government that is called "best value". There are plenty of top firms that do not need the AA as much as the AA needs them to feed its coffers.
  13. Do not delay the inevitable. Give an honest appraisal its worth more long term.
  14. HK. I'm liking my dragonfly more and more each time i use it.
  15. my knees are so knobbly I can't decide which bit to measure.
  16. I claim £240. When i tried to put it up to £1200 , a realisic rent for an office I was investigated by the tax office and it went back down again. If you claim for the the costs of the building (ie. mortgage) then you may be liable for capital gains tax on the office if you sell the asset ie. your home(office) ask a good accountant.
  17. yes it has andy, its a lot less forest and a lot more "conservation habitat without trees"
  18. who knows , but getting to the bar was quicker!
  19. I have a 1960's stihl that i got from the tip for 3 quid and that started fine.
  20. excellent carbon neutral answer. if it decays it becomes mostly methane via various fauna and as we know methane is a naughty gas.
  21. Dear Agony Arb. I have TPO trees to cut back , the county council have written to my client stating the trees are interfereing with traffic as they extend into the road. do I 1) get the TPO permission from the LA and wait weeks for permission. 2) cut them back as per the diagram and leave stubbs at 5.2m 450mm back from the road. 3) call it a "statutory undertaking", do a nice job and smile all the way to the bank. yours desperately log-ol
  22. I bought a screw type splitter 2nd or 4th hand. well it chews up wood ok and you can heave on a log and walk off for more while its going , hands free. not bad for 200 quids
  23. Now you have me thinking as I don't ever recall seeing it in oak either.
  24. local scrap steel prices are £190/ton so I doubt it will get to africa.
  25. they have the rules, they just choose not to follow them so strictly.
