  1. I'm looking to buy in cordwood this year to suplement my stash. Good old fashioned beech cordwood at roadside. I sell by the half and full load on a 2.2 cubic metre tranny tipper. I always cut to the required length and split the logs so that I can pick it up with one hand.
  2. I only sell seasoned wood , ie. its at least one season old. Seriously though I have timber on the stack that is 3 years old and is still wet in the middle. it is upto 3 foot in diameter though. last week I went through the stack and cut downwards slices into the big bits to get air in and water out. Logs are gonna be big this year.
  3. You have a real name then Andrew.
  4. but they wernt working, lazy gits wher on the skive or the fiddle .
  5. dry head and dry feet. thats the way to dry wood, let the wind in the side.
  6. Most main roads are so well constructed that if 10,000 or 50,000 vehicles can drive over them each day then a tree is no problem. I only know of one guy to punch in a road in 20 years and that was a minor lane following the storm in 1987 . The council man said fell the tree , phil said what about the road , council man said fell it and we will fill the hole afterwards, the tree has got to go.
  7. phoning a potential client to arrange a quote and they tell you who has priced and how much.
  8. And to think that I bought a moped to go to work on 15 years ago cos the landrover was too inefficient. Have you ever rode 20 miles on a moped with a 262 and combi can and breaking bar on the back? Yeah you get strange looks but it paid for itself in 2 weeks. looks like those days are comming back!
  9. Mine have done 155k on a 300tdi and 165K on a 200tdi. The discovery has been driven to Norway, Denmark and Switzerland without problem. I only take a fan belt and a wheel bearing , tin of radweld, pair of pliers and 2 adjustable spanners.
  10. Biggest Uk timber load on a standard trailer was I know was just over 56 tonnes in 1990 ( legal limit then was 38 or 40 tonnes) from Christchurch to Poole docks about 8 miles and on the ferry to Spain . The drivers said its OK to heap up the sweet chestnut so my boss did. lots of loads went over weight like that to the continent.
  11. It is strange cos I thought Sweden was nearer Great Britain than the Americas. Possibly they have found the NW passage.
  12. It is disgraceful that so called and self appointed experts allow a tree like that to be felled. The insurance industry should not be allowed to hold others to ransom like that. The tree is as old as the houses and has just as much right to be there. I have seen many good trees removed recently due to clay shrinkage problems round here. The council applies TPO's and the insurers threaten to sue for the liability and damages then the LA give in. Its not so much the removal than the threatening and bully boy tactics that I object to.
  13. Judging by the video i just watched you need to call in the insurance tree experts to see if its undermining the building and get them to sign the death warrant.
  14. I've had a week off and I'm glad cos its costing too much to go to work.
  15. once i lost both spikes out of a scotty and hung my scrotum on a small stubb.
  16. cos I'm ready and available, thanks Ed for the lead. With 20 years experience of large conifer and hardwood felling in the woods, my groundie has 35 years of big trees. Based on the western edge of the New Forest.
  17. I often hang my 200T on a small stub
  18. I think I need to start with a few listings.... http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/AdRef/RW811YTDW/Class/204/Editions/G%7CBrighton%7CK,B,F,A,C/SArea/Surrounding/Web/FullAdDetails.asp
  19. I should have added telesales and foreign call centres to my halcyon days list. I once had an irate woman call me and ask why I had not replied to her email of 3 weeks previous. err because I look at emails about every 6 weeks.... anyway I asked my mate about web sites and he says, " I'll give you the details of the lass who did mine" , so I google his business name and can i find it, CIF. So much for all that.
  20. I'm glad that I can say the same. I have planted thousands of trees, not as many as some but enough to justify my love of cutting them down.
  21. Is that a National Forest Park ? It looks like Beech and European Silver Fir mostly. Is it a mountain reigon.
  22. This is a subject that I have pondered for years. I had a domain name registered about 9 years ago but never got the site going. (bad old days of dial up) The main question is can you get work from it? or is it a gimmick. Also I dont want enquiries from Carlisle etc. With regular sources of advertising what annoys me are the advertising sales bods that say " do you ask where the enquiry comes from ?" WTFAI, a secretarial service. Will a website work without resorting to looking at emails every day ? I hate sorting out the messages in the answermachine. arrrggghhh. any one remember the bliss before the creeping tide of mobile phones and the internet washed over us.
  23. I have had no problems with that part but .... in Jan the D ring on the back of my 200T cracked off and allowed my saw to fall 4m onto a concrete path. Check that bit too.
  24. I would have said source the 50mm rope in a boat yard, then I realised shropshire is a land locked county.
  25. put this in the reviews Steve!
