  1. I know you are only trying to help. Who in there right mind would build a new extension pushing up to a mature tree? The. Ask to remove it after the extension. I would hazard a guess that there is some form planning constraint regarding the tree that you haven't been informed of. Common sense should dictate to remove the tree before the construction of the extension. If they have been daft enough not to work that out the they should have to live with it if the LA won't allow work on the tree.
  2. John, did you take the Robin with you to the new place of work or is it still kicking around your old yard?
  3. Surely a bigger piece and more force tho would keep it orientated correctly? Just being devils advocate really. I would want the splice to sit tighter on the block.
  4. Fair point mate. I tend to concentrate on my own actions and not that of others. There is too much going on in the world to blow a gasket over something so trivial IMO.
  5. Never met the man but seemed very knowledgeable and provided valuable input to the forum apart from the occasional meltdown. The 'Boy Scouts are ruining forestry' and his little meltdown seemed a bit pointless to me, but maybe if that sort of thing gets you so riled up then forums are not the place to hang.
  6. I have it constantly. 42 years old. I have a good feeling mine was caused by standing next to base bins and speaker stacks at raves and clubs in the 90's. Along with a perforated left ear drum about 18 years ago and running saws daily I doubt it will improve. Strangely enough, other people say it amplifies it but I sleep with ear plugs. With plugs my internal hum rocks me to sleep.
  7. For every bad review there is usually a good review. I have had a truckman on my Hilux since new. 18months now, still looks like new and still performs like new. Apart from a squeaky door, its great.
  8. Those with eyesight, small buttons, fat fingers and an iPhone problem... You can always zoom. Haha
  9. I'll send it over tomorrow Mark.
  10. Do you have to update? Thanks for the heads up. It took me ages to get it all sorted and I really can't be ersed to do it all again.
  11. I find it allows the stem to leave the stump cleaner. It also gives is a bit or forward momentum.
  12. Nicely illustrated Tim. Here is a similar one from the back end of last year. Albeit a horse chestnut and shorter but I had the same issues. Conventional face, reasonably narrow but with the snipe cut into it. We felled it high as it was staying high (for some unknown reason). the last thing I wanted was for the tip to hit first and then but roll back sideways into the rose arch. I also wanted it to land flat as there was a nicely paved path and border under the tyres and ply. Worked a treat. I suppose it is half way between yours and Marks method.
  13. Nice one Darren. I trust the missus, the dogs and yourself are well mate. I was working in telecoms and decided to get out as soon as possible. I left to work as a snowboard guide in 2000. Did a couple of winters living in The alps. On my second season I had ditched the work malarkey and was having fun. One of the guys I lived with was a tree surgeon. We kept in touch. When I was back in the UK I decided to give it a go. Contacted my mate, did a bit. Contacted a few others and did a bit whilst at college. Been at it ever since.
  14. Excellent. Glad you got sorted. Keeping us posted on any results.
  15. Yes it was me. Honey brothers spoke with the designer and they replaced it. The haas is a really simple setup. With the Velux it just works. You don't have to tune and trim the bungee like the previous version.
  16. TBH, I used a home made one for about 3 years it was fine. I just decided to by one after meeting The designer of the HAAS at an arb show. It was a bit of innovation that I felt he should be rewarded. My version was actually based on Jerry Beraneks doubled line rope walker system. Only I was using it for SRT work. The HAAS is well made and seems to be pretty contstant and reliable. As was home made one. The main difference is it took me a while to dial in the length of bungee required for a maximum stride length.
  17. But if I understand you won't be getting the benefits of a HAAS as you will be using Stein. I would make one or buy the real thing personally. If you are tight for funds, make one. If your flush, then put some money back into the designers pocket and buy an original.
  18. I had a freelander for quite a few years. I was once up in Richmond with Dave the dog. We were rec climbing and had to make it up a step hill to trees overlooking the castle. There was melting snow on the ground and the freelander made it up on road tyres using the HDC. Dave had his 130 in low box. I never had any problems with mine. TD4 engine mind. Not the petrol.
  19. I just have mine right and high and then push it down as far as possible. Yes a big saw may pull it down a bit but it does with every harness I have used. Not the TM Lite I might add. I used one of these once when my kit was elsewhere. Never again unless I have to.
  20. Will do.
  21. What are you using it for? I worked in Norway with a guy from Uzbekistan. He used to point out the Chaga on Birch trees saying in his home country and Russia the grind it up to make a tincture/tea. Claimed some people use it to try and cure cancer.
  22. Well thank you Les. As the distributor, Les contacted Honey brothers and they liased with Michael Frankenhauser. Once they saw the pictures they have replaced the unit. Thanks to Les, Woody and Michael.
  23. A couple of the 661's I have used in the past have got sigjificantly better after about 10 tanks. I have a 660 that Steve ported. It cuts like stinks and is very loud. Not sure how the 661 would respond. Do the 661's have the computer tuned carb? Would that create an issue with tuning after the porting work had been completed?
  24. Top banana. A bad tree done well.
  25. The Alhambra is stunning Steve. If you make it to Granada it is a must.
