  1. Glad you were not too badly hurt. But seriously, you said you are getting older. You SHOULD know better. Carrying on like that is a fools game. What do you think you are gonna prove? That you can work till you pass out? as that is all you proved. Take it easy, take a break and find something for your insomnia. I have had it badly since my mid teens. I manage fine these days. The old school attitudes of first in last out is pathetic IMO. Work smarter and not harder and then take the time to reflect on the people knocking their nuts out without thinking.
  2. That's what I did when it happened to mine a couple of years ago. my theory (for what it is worth) is the ported or timed version run a bit more aggressively and that might contribute to that screw loosen itself.
  3. I hear you Spud. How would you suggest shutting the saw down when the kill switch has gone? Letting it run out of fuel? Sometimes us Arbs just have to get the job done with what we have.
  4. I have a couple of 150t's. One is 4 years old and still going strong. I bought another when I moved over to Norway to run on aspen. built quality is fine, I do high clip it though and not dangle it like a conker.
  5. Not really a fix though is it? steve, when it happens to mine I used the smallest Lyon tape sling girth hitched to the rear of the handle. It fitted perfectly to the krab I connect my lanyard with. Acted as a back up. Sorry, I dont have a picture of it.
  6. If you are gonna get one Pete, make sure it is the 10 plate facelift version. The earlier version is prone to the con for failure that hampered the Nissan navara. No idea how much one of those costs though.
  7. There are plenty of firms in and around Orpington mate. I have recently moved from Hither Green to Oslo, otherwise I would have had a look for you. if you want a reputable firm, give Ross White a call at Kong Tree care. If you google them his number should come up. As for milling, it doesn't look worth it to me and the wire in the stem is not a good start.
  8. The only person I have spoken to it about is my missus uncle. He is a commercial fisherman up in the Arctic. He was glad that people who had no idea what a Cod looks like could tell him how to do his job. This was a while back though. I tend not to discuss politics too much. Like them or loath them, the policies and they who set them... nothing much changes whoever makes the rules
  9. Oh yes there were plenty. Most of them are now bankrupt. Global Telecoms was a funny old game. I am glad I got out. Everyone fighting for the same piece of pie.
  10. I used to work to for the Canadian incumbent International telecoms carrier. They owned a couple of Transatlantic cable systems. One of them was called Cantat 3. IIRC in 1998 a deep sea trawler dredged up a portion of the cable damaging it and basicially disconnecting Europe from America. There were back up cable systems and asymetric satellite links providing redundancy but had nowhere near the capacity required. In those days incumbents sold to other incumbents. BT was severely effected as was trading on the London Stock Exchange. The major clients of the UK arm of the company were France Telecom, Deutsche Telecom, Telecom Italia etc. The German stock exchange took a major hit as the connection was down for quite a few days. i joined that company a month after it happened and our name was mud, even though we had jack shit to do with the outage. I am sure that and other contributing factors led to the downfall of that company.
  11. I would hazard a guess that in part it is due to the Telecommunication and Data infrastructure. The majority of Transatlantic cable systems land in the UK before spurring onto the rest of Europe. That or the fact the Nathan Rothschild single handedly took control of the London Stock Exchange, Royal Mint, UK Economy, British Empire and the Royal family in one afternoon... give hope to others that they too could accomplish such a feat. Or because it is the most corrupt place in the world?
  12. I am only 4' 6" though. Wider than I am tall.
  13. How heavy are you? I climbed on that for years. I am 87 Kilo in me pants. 3 wraps 2 braids on a short hitch cord. It self tended and bit when needed. I don't really use a VT these day as most of my work is done single line with a RR or a BDB.
  14. I don't think you can really beat a dialled in VT. Problem is there are so many factors that contribute to its characteristics. Even something as simple as twisting one leg 360degrees before putting it on the bona can have a huge effect.
  15. Really? i honestly can't see how opportunity is a bad thing. You may not choose to exercise the right to move. But didn't people die in the past fighting for our rights? This being Armistace day. i thought you were ex military? Surely that attitude is a big kick in the balls to the 100's of thousands who have fallen for our rights?
  16. Because the children are the future of a nation. Regardless of what anyone thinks, some education may be of better quality elsewhere. It was your right to study abroad, you probably didn't choose it but why shouldn't your children have the same rights as you?
  17. Britain being in the EU wasn't the reason I was disenchanted. I just dont don't believe the government want what is best for the population. They are elite serving the elite and they have their own agendas.
  18. Connor Macgregor. thinks he is king of the world and his latest antics show you can give a skally millions but they are still a skally!
  19. Yes my family were more important. That is the underlying reason. I have been disenchanted with the state of affairs in the UK for a number of years now. Better wages, better standard of living for me and the family with better prospects. So far it hasn't been all plain sailing but I truly believe we have made the correct decision for our future. surely if I was a fully fledged remainer, I would still be there? Norway may not be directly be in the EU but it does have strong ties and opportunities to members of EU countries.
  20. Wes, I didn't call anyone retards. I try to look at decisions with an open mind. I was neither a remainer or a brexiter. I didn't vote in the conventional way I voted with my feet. I think that Micks comment is really close to where it lies for me. Both sides have their arguments and points but it was the way one jumps on the others statements with the I told you so bit. both sides used the Norway model as one example to demonstrate why their argument is better. Norway is a wealthy country with large reserves of natural resources, gas, oil and fishing/maritime. Britain doesn't anymore. The fact is that Norway still gives the EU a whole lot of money but has nothing to do or has a say in the policies that come out of Brussels, yet they still pay dearly for it. I read somewhere that there were huge contingencies of Brexit voters in rural and agricultural areas of the UK. Those same areas rely heavily on farming subsidies from the EU... if that isn't cutting your nose of to spite your face, I do not know what is.? Or in other words, Narrow minded. In my original reply to you I maybe should have said the narrow mindedness or the arguments from both sides. Quite honestly, the only thing that steered me towards having a partial foot in the remain camp was, I had already decided to move. I registered my children with Norwegian passports and citizenship. Norway doesnt allow dual nationality. So once the kids are adults they have to decide. Maybe they will want to study in the UK? Who knows. If Britain is no longer part of the EU then it may be an additional level of buerocracy that will have to be overcome.
  21. The main reason was the BS going in in the UK. The narrow minded people who voted out, the lack of bollocks in the authorities, the government and press with their own agendas, which completely goes against what the majority of the population want. The list goes on. In reality, I am not stupid enough to think the grass is that much greener elsewhere. Everywhere has its issues. But I was living in London, I had, had enough, made a bit of profit in my house. The missus is Norwegian, she got a good offer of work. My kids speak Norwegian and I didnt want them in London for much longer. I wanted a better life for them. So we moved to Norway.
  22. I have already made a Brexit. I Voted with my feet and got my family and myself out of there. I will be watching from the sidelines.
  23. It might be ergonomic to you but it is far from efficient. Pull down a foot and ascend 6 inches. the same deal with SRT except you pull a foot and you ascend a foot.
  24. It is worth it mate. You will gain more than £66 worth of information. Having been a great fan of his other work, specifically "The Fundamentals of General Tree Work', I have had this set since it was launched. I think I bought it from Treeworker at one of the trade show about 7 6 or 7 years ago. I can concur with Rupe's thoughts... I was just gonna skip the first 2 DVD's thinking I know the basics. I persevered and watched them. There are so many things that you forget and little tricks and tips you will pick up, make the watching worth while. Mr Beranek has probably forgotten more thing to do with tree work than we actually know. I have lent the box set to a number of lads who have worked under me at firms. They have all said the same thing. It is a very useful source of information.
  25. I had some when it was first launched. We did a week of emergency work in woodlands in Bexleyheath. There had been heavy snow fall and we were removing the hangers over paths before the xmas break. Everyday it was soaked. I daisy chained the rope and hung it to dry in my workshop. It was still damp after a 2 week break over the xmas period. Never really climbed on it after that. It did feel good in the hand though when it was dry. But I agree you need hard hitch cord that doesn't flatten out. I found it too grabby and would lock up. Maybe my weight, i aint fat just big boned, but it worked better with harder cords.
