  1. Little harsh. Its horses for courses. My eldest boy was not very academic and had always said he wanted to join me in tree work, so I took him on as an apprentice. My younger boy is very academic, he hopes to become a Surgeon, so he will be doing A levels then on to university. I'm just glad that kids today have choices and can take full advantage of all the opportunities available, if they work hard enough.
  2. Never had a card, just the paper cert from 1996, been asked for a copy a handful of times in the last 17 years.
  3. Those who go on to 6th form have already been to school and know what subjects they are good at, so why would they take an A level that they were going to fail??? Its about the grade, not just passing. Its so funny that a group of ill educated, grumpy, old tree choppers are moaning about kids trying to get a decent start in life
  4. People claim that, but if your digestion was slow you would loose weight not gain it and its actually been show that the obese have faster metabolisms than the slim. The laws of thermodynamics are pretty simple, no one came out of the concentration camps saying "I was on one cup of rice a day and never lost an ounce"
  5. Yes, but if the client does not want it why convince them to keep it, fell and replant with two new trees. Its hardly a thing of beauty and certainly not something I'd want in my garden.
  6. Do you weigh more than a car????

    Running in?

Hedge cutters don't really rev out like a saw does, so I don't really thing you need to worry at all.
  8. That is very cool Ryan, where a bouts are you??
  9. If you can keep that down your not really hungover
  10. Do you not cut with a saw after you tune it? My dealer aways has a pile of timber round the back of their work shop and make few cuts to check the saw is right.
  11. Jon has been asked repeatedly to please post off topic threads in the "lounge", Steve and the mods have been moving them continually, it was decided that from now on they would be deleted, not moved. This thread should also have been in the lounge.

    Stunt fell

    Outstanding!!!!!!!!!
  13. Of cause and my "yes" was a little tongue in cheek But I have always tried to be as straight and honest in my dealings as possible, doing by others as I wish to be done by. But suggesting that most of us started our businesses by poaching customers from those we worked for is appalling IMO and I certainly don't want new lads to thinking it a good idea or in anyway acceptable.
  14. Speak for yourself!, thats lower than a snakes belly, IMO:thumbdown: and something I would never do. Had one cretin who had worked for me try it, but fortunately my customers are loyal and rang to tell me about his door knocking. I rang the aforementioned cretin pointing out that it was not cricket and it would be better if he did not do it again.
  15. Nope, bar is fettled and rotated when new chain is fitted, sprocket changed as needed, chain sharpened as required until dead, then replaced and repeat. New chains are always in cab.
  16. So you actually removed part used chains from your MS200????Do you really grind or get ground a chain that is so small it takes minuets to sharpen??? When I fit a chain to any of my saws, it stays on till the teeth are so thin the start coming off. So if I changed saws an spare chains would be new and could be altered or exchanged.
  17. My Disco 3 gives 22MPG if I'm lucky!!! Although I do tend to drive it like I've stollen it!! It ask eats tyres!!
  18. When it comes to long term forecast they really are clueless, I remember hearing it was going to be another wet, cold summer, a week before that long hot, dry spell. I would always try to have yourselves covered what ever comes, it would be great to cash in if it is another hard one, but IMO its not worth loosing your shirt if it isn't.
  19. Defiantly looks like some kind of Pop from the seeds. When the big ones round here produce seed it make a right old mess, hence there other name of "cotton trees", there is a road here called Heifer Lane, but every one calls it Cotton Tree Lane. There are some big Black Pops at the bottom of the hill. They only seed occasionally, many years apart, but when they do its pretty impressive.
