  1. Why is it strange to want to repeatedly ascend and decend a tree, but ok to run round a track or swim back and forth in a pool??????
  2. Thats exactly what I think when I watch the vids you guys post I guess we all see each job differently
  3. 20 years ago arb as we know it today was today was only just beginning. 40 years ago it did not exist.
  4. Said to those who say how lucky you are to have a successful business and decent standard of living "Yes and the funny thing is the harder I've worked the luckier I've become":sneaky2:
  5. The problem with the "red bits" is they tend to not hold the lever in the fully operating position, a stick or bottle tends to keep it more fully engaged.
  6. You can simply put the levers forward or back (as opposed to left or right, toward the seats) this puts the hydraulics into neutral and releases all pressure.
  7. So what if the shops had it in stock for 6 months??
  8. If you make a proper record of when each hat is put into service I can't see the HSE having any problem with that, no different to LOLER for climbing gear.
  9. Not really, it gives an indication of age.
  10. Yes they do, but I believe the clock only starts ticking once their out of the box, UV rays and all that.
  11. Of cause its easy, just go in cheap.
  12. Thats like those huge mankie shorts you had to wear for PE if you forgot your kit, that or your undies.
  13. Winning works easy, making a decent profit is the skilled bit.
  14. Thats not what he said, he said he HAD to go in cheap or some else would, so he becomes the other guys "someone else" who goes in cheap and the price just keeps dropping. When I first started out I charged too little, over a brew with customers I would ask what other prices they had had, over time I increased my rates. Sticking to the right price can in time lift price.
  15. May just not have enough flow to run the crane.
  16. Thats probable what your competition say about you. When it comes to under pricing your either part of the problem or part of the solution, only you can decide which you want to be. There will be plenty of firms in your area charging £400+ for two guys. I'm not working as many days per week as I used to, but I'd sooner work 3 days per week for decent money and keep prices up, than do 5 days for silly prices and join the race to the lowest price in town.
  17. You can just buy a "hygiene kit" for the muffs, they are then pretty much back to new spec. What do you do with your old lids?? If you sell/pass them on, its no waste, binning them after one year is pretty wasteful IMO.
  18. Hehe, I used to use a Vimto bottle
  19. Banks get our money to lend out, I ain't paying them for the privilege. Sure I'll happily pay for credit, but not to move around my own cash.
  20. Really?? I've been with them of over 2 years, still free banking here.
  21. Its not actually legal to take brash to your yard, or anywhere else, and burn it, its fine to burn on the site where its cut, but not to transport and burn. I'm in no way saying people don't do it, just pointing out the legalities.
  22. Really Where do you live, Middle Earth????
  23. Exactly!! So in a few years you could become real competition, which he may not want, plus why continue to use someone who intends to leave.
