  1. No, they have ability along with their passion, its their ability that brings the success, not the passion. Your better working where your ability lies and having your passion as a hobby, if the two are in different areas.
  2. I think a 2 man team, 3.5tonner and 6" chipper today should be on £450+VAT minimum.
  3. You appear to have missed my point, there will always be some Ash and for a luxury product such as the Morgan it will be found
  4. How?? Scarcely generally pushes prices up, not down:confused1:
  5. They build them pretty slowly, I don't imagine the get though huge amounts of timber. My understanding is that on the continent 65% of Ash have been affected, so even worse case scenario we will still have a fair bit of Ash. Also infected Ash timber is unaffected, so timber can be harvested, dried and stored.
  6. Its simply indicative of what drives down rates in our industry. If the guy had said "Oh I did not expect it to be £360, that far more than I wanted to pay" that would suggest I'm too expensive. The fact is I often get people who are more than happy with my price, but are they are then shocked by a much lower price. 20 years ago I ran a 3.5t pickup and 6"chipper, at that time I charged £280 per day on average for a two man team. I know that there are guys near me charging similar today, its madness.
  7. Indeed. The stupid thing is that customers are happy to pay more, its not a job they can do themselves.
  8. I've always wanted a Morgan, but the more I have earned, the more my outgoings have risen, so I'm no nearer today than when I was 17. Maybe one day:001_smile:
  9. Very sensible, IMO. Do as you would be done by. She would gain greatly, were as you would be jeopardising an important client relationship. Loyalty is getting less and less common, unfortunately, good for you:thumbup1:
  10. It isn't, but the longer people keep thinking that way the harder it is to achieve and only a few will achieve it. I priced the removal of 2 medium-sized spruce, I said £300+VAT. The customer was delighted, it was much lower than he anticipated and wanted to know how soon I could do it. But he had another chap coming to quote in the morning, so it was only fair he let him quote. Other guy quoted £180:001_rolleyes: So many put so little value on their time and skill:thumbdown:
  11. It depends wether you "live to work or work to live". I have a wife and 4 chidden, I'm far more interested in giving them a good standard of life than I am with having nice new kit. My business is a means to an end, not an end in itself.

    Tiny echo!

Its a shame husqy haven't recall their pile of excrement 540XP. The rear spring mount on mine snapped (for the second time) the saw body separated, so I tried to tap it back together, so I could finish what I was doing, this resulted in the top of the plug punching a hole in the fuel tank, this then set the saw on fire!! Fortunately I managed to blow the fire out, but as I was 40ft up a tree at the time it could have been nasty:thumbdown:
  13. Damson?? although I think they generally have thorns?
  14. There was a fair bit of free fall to start with, once the lowering rope came out I kinda lost interest, watch 3/4 of it, which is pretty good for me
  15. Good vid, but that saw would drive me potty, just get 201 or 540 up there and get through the wood!!
  16. It used to pay much better than it does now, but there are far more people at it now.
  17. I don't understand how a business owner would not have receipts for all their gear, you need them to claim against your tax. Also my dealer has a recored of all the saws etc bought on my account and will provide serial numbers for me if I ask.
