  1. Best of luck Chris! What made the Diff go?I thought the Salsubry diff was practically bulletproof?
  2. When your mates come round for a party on new years eve carrying their old Christmas trees for you to get rid of.
  3. When the "Sherrill" Cataloge gets thumbed untill the cover falls off and six months later you still havn't ordered anything!
  4. Fair call. The guys would go on "bolt patrol" and tighten up anything loose. But I didn't expect the engine to loose three engine mounting bolts on one persons driveway in the course of an afternoon.
  5. Well spotted! I have an enourmous respect for those Air Craft. They can drop two cylinders in flight and still chug along, they are the "Chevrolet Pickups" of the Sky.I saw one take off with so much aboard the floats were nearly under water,it just sat back and like a lazy blowfly eventually chugged into the Sky.
  6. Fly out jobs in Alaska.Big Trees, fishing Bears Moose and Bear.
  7. Vermeer just seemed to have lost the plot. Good engines and cutting units in the bigger ones. But the BC1800XL's got recalled in 2005 because the chassis cracked in PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THEM.A mate had one and the cracking was so bad it could have sheared off. The electrical switches in the whole machine are junk, you need more than a few in your toolbox as they go too often. They chose the wrong switches for the linkage that actuates them. The winch free spool and drive controll may as well be made out of "Play dough". The year before that we had a BC1400 that was so problematic it would take pages to catalouge all the breakdowns we had with it. But here are a few of the more notable. Rocker cover came loose and oil went everywhere. Engine mounting bolts fell out as nearly did the engine. Clutch disintegrated (brand new machine) Drive belt tensioner disintegrated (sparks and all) All the above happened to a new machine over a six month period.
  8. when your idea of "Drift racing" is getting the mog/Transit/Cargo in a four wheel slide around a roundabout. You use the HI AB as a jack when you change the brakes in your Girlfreinds Polo. You can parallel park a Truck and chipper in a gap that most motorists would struggle to fit above said Polo
  9. When you have rolled at least one chipper Chipped an annoying co workers Mobile Phone Put slugs in above co-workers sandwiches
  10. I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to add a little somthing to. You know your a Tree Surgeon when emptying your vacume cleaner looks supprisingly like dumping a chip truck. When there are chainsaw parts in the dishwasher. Your mates applaude you sqeaking a chip truck through "width restrictors" at 40mph. So all, lets hear yours.
  11. I have one for sale, waterproof AND Breathable. Make me an offer.
  12. "Flying Toss!" Got to use that saying more often! Not heard that in years, thanks Buzz!
  13. Quite like it.Could do with somthing behind it,but I think its an improvment.
  14. "Just cut it! Just cut it" Whoops.
  15. Half of my guys are Polish,so yelling is a waste of breath. Joking. Usually "Below!"
  16. I worked on several Vermeer chippers in the States. It seems like in the last few years they have been designed by "Bean Counters" Rather than engineers. If I were in the market for a 18" chipper and had the acess for it,I'd recondition a BC1800 from the late 90's. Simple Solid Sold!
  17. Come over and have a look at the situations that trees exist in,in the UK MB. Then I think you might gain a better understanding of why trees are reduced in such a way.Leaving them to grow to maturity isn't a frequent option.Felling all the trees that are regularly reduced would turn the nations cities onto a even more forbidding place. Come over and your opinions could be reinforced or reverse. The answer is mearly a plane ticket away mate.I'm sure you wouldn't have to pay for accomadation. If you fancied a short flight further, your welcome to stay at my place in Norway.
  18. Same could be said for a Crane operator Steve.
  19. An old Boss used to say ,"If they want the Tree painted gold,we say mat or gloss". I try and give all the options,if they want the Tree heavily reduced then better its done by a professional than some one with no idea where to cut.
  20. If the kids are only allowed to enjoy what the Government outlines as "fun".Then how many Artist's/Adventurer's/Leaders will there be in the UK's future? I suppose the Police Officer's embarrasment at having to respond to Children riding a mower show's that at least he found the complaint rediculous. But the next generation of Police might not. They'll be a product of the "Nanny States" current policies. Sad
  21. Looks good! Ash can be a right Mongrel to reduce,I'd rather have a retained Tree looking like that, than a stump to look at. Well done Glen
  22. Ok thanks Dean! I normally use a socket with insulation tape wrapped round it to center the clutch. But theres no shortage of room to work on the clutch buy the looks of things.I'll tip the deck up and prop it,the Hiab will be in there as well holding the gearbox up.
  23. Sounds like a great tool! I've decided to do the clutch in the Beford. It came with one and the thrust bearing is making some noise so I may as well do that on saturday.Could I bodge a centering tool with a socket and some tape?Or is the end of the crank too big for that?
