  1. I have no problem with people harvesting their own meat. There is no "nice way" to kill anything. The Faroe Islanders appear to be using motor boats and wearing wetsuits to make life easier for themselves.Perhaps they could also use firearms to make the death of their quarry swifter?
  2. A mate is a lineman from Perth WA,he and several other guys from the company he works for have gone down there to help reconnect the electricity in the effected regions. As for treework,I doubt it very much.Considering trees are wood and it was a fire.
  3. That truely is a great video! I would like to see more of that,it would make a interesting addition to a website advertisment.
  4. 62 Feet
  5. Thankfully I have never had to rescue someone from a Tree. I like the idea of a second rope over the installed throw line.Having the rope pre installed means there is no chance of the throwline coming off the end of a rope in an installation attempt. For me,tying a few half hitches in the cold is bad enough, cold, tired, and in a hurry would mean an even greater chance of losing the Rope off the throwline. Not having a go at Monkeyd, just my thoughts on it.
  6. I have only breif experiance working for a large company,it was a nightmare for all the reasons that have been listed. With regard to the managers not having spent time on the tools and being out of touch with the workers, then I suppose the change needed would come from workers aspiring to and then gaining managment positions.
  7. I like the chipper idea myself. You could expand the topic by showing a history of their use in Arb and how chippers have gone from a "some have" to a "must have". Might be a different and refreshing angle for your Tutor?
  8. Well done mate! Great job by the looks of it!
  9. Holy smoke! Did you pay that in Auckland?
  10. Chain goes round? What is this magic you speak of?
  11. Looks nastly mate.Hahahahahhahahahhahahah.
  12. I have a 4X4 truck. However as a personal/quoting vehicle is 2wd.Its the first time since my teens that I han't had a 4x4 as a daily driver. I would like a 4X4 but is not really needed.
  13. CHARLIE DON'T SURF! Seriously,I'd go. By the sounds of it,your mates know the score.
  14. Looked like a tidy job mate! That wood will burn well once its seasoned for a while.
  15. Great Video Pete! Found that really interesting, thanks for sharing.
  16. No not at all,I used my "Pruning Spikes",they have ultra fine cylindrical Spurs. Looks just like insect damage from a distance. Yeah,my hands ache for a while when I start in that weather. But the more you use them the faster the pain goes away. Quitting smoking would help too.
  17. I think this was set in Western Australia so it sort of counts. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7y9vtVG4eY&feature=PlayList&p=8307E13C66130418&playnext=1&index=22[/ame]
  18. Some Birch and a couple of Oaks had been planted in the past. Also an Elm. A few of the Trees were dead or dying and will be replaced with Ash. The trees were quite small for their age, your right, the cold and limited light has ment a hard life for them. The growth rings on some of the dead tops we removed were tight as could be. Yes,seven of the climbers are Norwegian.I was the token foreigner. Took three and a half days.Pretty manic but the trees wern't all that big and often you could swing from one to another and not all required extensive deadwooding. About half of the Trees were on a path up to a Colledge, the few Specimens that were of the size you'd expect from a 200year old Ash were more sheltered and up by the main house.Unfortunatly these Trees were in a bad state and after removing Hazard limbs, they are to be felled.
  19. I was part for a Group of climbers that went to Trondheim to deadwood 200 odd Ash Trees. The Trees were planted around 1800.We had a great time and it was nice to get out of Bergen for a while.Even if it took over ten hours each way to get to Trondheim.
  20. Where does one get a "accident profile" for Norway,Sweden.Danmark and Finland? I for one would like to know. Make interesting reading.
  21. I'm up for it! Might try and hire a Transit van and skip the tent idea,do abit of "propper tree work" on the way and recoup some travel costs.
  22. Hello mate!

You take it easy, hope your healing fast.

  23. I would go the academic route. Its not like theres loads of work out there at the moment,so you won't be missing out whilst your studying. Also I would think that having more academic qual's might make it easier to get a less physically demanding job in Arb.
  24. Has the vibration gotten worse? Seems strange that the vibration comes in at a certain speed, then goes away only to appear again. Can you take off the rear drive shaft in your Shed, jack up the front and run it to have a look?If you take off the front wheels then you'll have plenty of room. Take the front shaft off.Engage difflock and still take it to Manchester.
  25. £2000 Thats my best guess considering your hiring in help and removing any wood.
