  1. Its that time of year again for myself all my insurances are coming up for renewal, the NFU currently hold my PL and EL, however it appears this year they have chucked in a new endorsment, rendering the insurance that covers PL for tree surgery work useless, i have been on the phone to them and will be contacting other companies, for quotes etc, however i just thought i would post this, as a little warning and a reminder to check your renewals as i know some people that would of just renewed without even checking it, as the premium is near enough identical to last years just so happens they have removed what i deem to be crucial bits of cover, have a good new year everyone
  2. I dont know if this information is true or not, but was informed by another tree surgeon that put BF Goodridge AT on his cabstar, that the amount of weight ie loading the truck with logs etc was reduced as the side walls were not as ridgid on the BF compared to the manufactures specified tyres. true or not i dont know, but if anyone is looking to change might be worth asking, the fitters as it may invalidate insurance as we know what sneeky people they are.
  3. HARSH UK | Hydraulic Tipping | Sheeting Systems | Home i looked into this, as i will be fitting one to my next king cab, these people sell a kit that can turn your king cab (super cab) into a tipper and retaining the original pick up bed. cant remember the price but i thought it was a resonable price, they do fitting as well.
  4. work hard rake up well, try and be one step ahead of what a climber will need, ie get a bigger saw fueled and ready to go (should job require it) and when in the drop zone look up, look up look up, nothing worse than a groundy not watching whats going on. as for when you start climbing start low and slow, think about the best route to make life easy for you and the people on the ground, a good team is what really counts
  5. I appreciate the law is the law and people have their jobs todo ie stop people inpsect etc. i was talking about this just the other day with a customer that just so happens to be rather high up in the police force, i did some hedge trimming for him, and told him about waste carrying ie hedge trimmings etc, he was of the opinion that in his area it was not a issue carrying green waste as they were only interested in the scrap metal "people" as it was a reason to stop and search as he put it usually its the travelling fraternity and we like to have a chat with them. seems like a very regional thing
  6. i was considering getting a navara pickup as i currently own a old school D22, but due to con rod issues wrote it off, however i did do some research about them, and if memory serves me correct nissan have extended the warrenty but "have not told anyone" ie its not widely known and some dealers have told people that the warrenty is not extended yet some say it is. from what i remember i think i saw it on watch dog not 100 percent sure. engine numbers prior to :YD25DDT 1219661 were the motors with con rod issues. get snooping on the interweb you could be in luck just copy and pasted this from the watch dog website hope its of some help When we asked Nissan about the problem with the D22 it gave us this statement: "Nissan is absolutely committed to quality both in terms of product and customer service and, as such, has openly stated for some time that the durability of a small number of D22 pickup engines, produced before August 2006, have not performed to our exacting standards. As a result, Nissan launched a five-year 93,000 miles extended warranty in May to formalise the support we were already providing to our customers. If any customers have concerns or questions regarding their D22 please contact us via a dedicated e-mail address: [email protected] or call us on 01923 899 334."
  7. A customer yesterday was telling me of this, have to say it seems a little odd was it a case of a tree surgeon finally losing it with joe public who choose to ignore any signs barriers in place whist tree work is happeing and thinking i'll show them i have felt like doing similar on occasions, however to actually go though with it...................................
  8. As fo who to buy tyres from might be worth looking at Event tyres, not sure they are where you are but i would expect so, they are a mobile fitting service and will come to your home or where you are working and fit them, the were about 140 quid cheaper than any of the local tyre places to myself when i had 4 fitted . ordered on the monday they came and fitted tuesday afternoon. very good service all in all
  9. personally i would go BFG A/T they out last General grabbers by a long way from my experience, never had the need for mud terrains, last winter had no problems with A/T and was out everyday throughout the bad weather (snow) driving up and down country lanes taking water to live stock. BGF A/T big thumbs up
  10. harvey b davison i have a 4wd compact tractor, its like a jack of all trades master of none but for my purposes it solves the need to have a lot of dedicated kit hanging around, ok so i still have had to buy attachments but it works out cheaper i run a stump grinder from it, i have a small chipper for it, the machine as a whole is narrow and will get places that a normal 6 inch chipper would be to wide. it will also tow my 6 inch road towable chipper if access is to narrow for my pickup. i run a log spillter off the back, i have other attachments rotavator, leveler, roller mower deck, that came with it when i bought it, its been very handy i dont advertise rotavating etc as its not what i wish to do, but for clients who have mentioned that they have the need i have supplied this service, all in all i have found it a good bit of kit occasionally i hire it to people who own menages to level and roll the surfaces, all in all for me it earns its money,
  11. I run a 99 nissan D22 its the old 8 valve motor been reliable as, although they do like to eat a few front prop shafts, its down on power in conparason to the new stuff but keeps rolling, the newer d22 with with the 16 valve motor with engine numbers prior to YD25DDT 1219661 were effected with the conrod issue apparently, the newer D40 seems to have clutch issues and rear diff issues from what i have heard.
  12. I have both, personally i would stick with a lock jack.
  13. i tow with a nissan d22 i also have a ifor 8 by 5 tipper i know which i prefer
  14. Personally i think you had a lucky escape i have the exact same trailer with high sides, its an absolute pig when towing when unloaded it bounces around like no other spend the extra and get one with proper suspension, like ifor williams etc i wish i had but mine was the right price thats about the only redeeming thing
  15. Tanaka for me at present had stihls previously, tanaka are trying to get into the professional market and offering long warranties i think it was 2 years professional use, i have used them for about 6 years in total on and off whilst being employed by other firms etc, and they get the thumbs up from me.
  16. click on the link where it says pre order now closed all will be revealed............sort of

    192?

I am no carving god by any means , but personally i would of thought it would be a good little saw for detailing a carving, i read somewhere i think it was ed robinsons website ( he sells cannon bars etc,) that it is not recommended running a carving bar on a saw over 40cc. so i would say go forth and carve!
  18. i am surprised no one has commented on the shocking taste in carpet he seems to have
  19. i think the current count of horses is 26! plus the 4 dogs 3 cats and five sheep!
  20. Very good! it makes me want to drag my butt outside and start carving again unfortunatly my carving has taken a back seat due to other jobs that keep croping up.........................rule no.1 never have a girlfriend whos number of horses out number all you fingers and thumbs and toes!
  21. i am surprised that the tree is still standing, all the fire damaged/trees on fire still, i have been called to over the years i have had to fell on the grounds that the firemen cannot attend the same fire twice therfore i have always been instruted to fell and cut open so they can be 100% sure the fire is out. nice to see it still up.
  22. Thanks for the advice people, all done now nice 10 minute job the kind of jobs i like.
  23. hello people, i have to change the bellow on my ifor tt85 trailer as its seen better days, now before i jump in armed with spanners etc i thought i would ask if anyone knows the procedure, as i know there is a piston lurking in the coupling and the last thing i want is a 10 minute job becoming the bain of my life cheers
  24. personally i dont think the weather will be that bad i am the eternal optimist when it comes to looking at forecasts i look at about 4 and they all vary, they dont have much of a clue. i know how you feel, good weather for a while then when you need a reasonable stint (a week its not must to ask for ) its seems to go up the swany. but the work always gets done one way or another. sunny gloucestershire you cant beat it
  25. wellwell you could take your dog to a whole new level......................of err not too sure. http://www.pinkcoyote.net/creativegrooming.html
