  1. I have had a set of bashlins for 12 years now in that time i have gone through 2 sets of velco pads, worth the cash for the comfort they give.
  2. I use one of these Black & Decker Ka900e Powerfile Belt Sander , B/DKA900E at D&M Tools doesn't take long to sharpen a set of blades up,

  4. I have been in this situation as a sub contractor, they kept harping on how they were going to prosocute me, I pointed them in the direction of the main contractor, and heard nothing more. When i sub contract to people i am there todo a job, not to check that all relevant legal documents etc have been sorted, The council just want to get their "hooks" into somone, and sadly anyone will do. The buck stops with the owner/main contractor not employees or subbys.
  5. the cheapest option would be to contact a marque company and see if the have any they are getting rid of, when they are no longer "white" they are sold off i picked one up for 100 quid 3 years ago nothing wrong with it apart from its not gleaming white.

  7. instead of painting, what about "vehicle wrapping"? may be a cheaper alternative and in the process protects the original paintwork from stone chips etc, when you come to sell it just removed the "wrap" and heypresto good paintwork. just google vehicle wrap for many examples you can go just one colour or full livery
  8. I have recently had a tree that i quoted for, all of a sudden a few facts came to light about ownership or lack off more's the point.............for the amount i had on the job it just was not worth my while, with the potenial hassle grief and stress it was going to cause me, sure work is tight and i had a good price on it. But i dont need money so badly that i am going to risk legal action against me and also damaging my reputation. People are devious and if i am honest i don't trust any of my potential customers, i have had people make up approved TPO and consevation applications in the past, Personally i would walk away, she sounds like a PITA.
  9. even worse than my long time american favorite Nosak Raw?, i think that might be up for debate
  10. I don't have a problem with what has happened to the OP, on a plus side it shows what the market will potenially take in that area, but what i will say is let me be gone before the next tree surgeon comes into quote had that happen the other day, infact, i know the other tree surgeon i used to work with him, the "potential customer" looked a bit awkward whilst i was having a yarn with the other tree surgeon asking how the wife and kids are etc.
  11. I looked at these they were brought into the country, but as the recession hit they stopped bringing them into the country, shame as it looked like a good working pick up, rather than the d40's ranger thunder etc.
  12. I have had a few tips over the years nothing over 10 quid, but the most memorial tip was given to the chap i was subbing to,I actually winessed it the customer made a point of handing it over infront of everyone working on site, the person i was subbing to put it in his pocket and said that will cover the cost of dumping the chips....................cheers pal wonder why i don't sub to you anymore, for me small things mean alot ....................btw he's a arbtalker as well
  13. Looks like a fun job.....................and i agree with RC0 and his sentiments
  14. absolute class................................................people never cease to amaze me I hope you put a roof on for the dog
  15. If you wanted to improve on the feet just glue some on:) chainsaw carving = sometimes you gotta botch the job just like any trade at the end of the day 99% of people will never know, nice effort
  16. @ Rover you ask How is it relevant where the pictured dog lives? i think it is, to me the artical has aspects of basically scarmongering and the picture they used is not IMO representative of bull breeds in this country, ears are only clipped for 2 reasons to make a dog look "mean" and when a dog is unfortunalty used for fighting. and the 20k damage i choose to disbelieve the figure due to the tone of the enitre artical, do you have any evdiance to support costs published in the media, from what i have seen the media likes to inflate costs etc to grab a headline. dogs do cause damage but so do so many other things. and finally Rover your Alsatians i am not a dog psychologist if i were i would probably be better off but it has to be said i dont believe you dog catchs a sheep, maybe the image in my mind is different to what your defination of catch is, do you have a video as i think it would be awesome to see, and have no problem being proved wrong. @ janey no thankfully i have never been in a park in london i had a look at the dog damage to trees leafets, the damage looks much the same as rabbits, sheep or horses inflict on trees in the countryside. it happens. tree vandalism is nothing new its been going on since man was put on this planet, it could be argued that in some respects its a good thing, encourgaing bio diversity and all that jazz, but we won't argue about that I suppose the crux of the matter is i have a soft spot for bull breeds and when the media trawls out its usual hate campaign i find it iratating and you know what my bull terriers love nothing more than a good tug of war
  17. That artical is utter rubbish written by idiots for idiots to believe, firstly i can't imagine that the bullterrier in the picture is from the uk, or is in the uk. i have never seen a bullterrier in the U.K with clipped ears in the U.S. yes. 20k worth of damage? i find that hard to imagine. forced to clamp their jaws around branches or a rope suspended from the tree. if they did not want to grab it they wouldn't, they do it because the dog sees it as fun. i doubt they are forced. slow news day me thinks
  18. be warned stupity of epic proportions contained within this video LiveLeak.com - Worlds Strongest Redneck Cuts Hedges With Chainsaw on a Rope
  19. I vote stump grind as much as you dare, price in new tips x2. looks like a bit a of pain, i assume they have started to dig it out and found its actually quiet hard work
  20. I have seen someone try and push brash in with, and this is in actual order it happened, a rake, then a metal fork and finally their boot, needless to say they got a word in their ear. and not long after marching cards
  21. there is a company that will convert your pickup into a tipper using the standard tub, HARSH UK | Hydraulic Tipping | Sheeting Systems | Home 1200 quid all in last time i looked.
  22. Woody, this is only my opinion, i insure most of my farm with the NFU tractor etc, this year they put on stupid endorsements on my PL re: height infact it made the PL worthless, and the people i had dealings with were IMO useless. they really did not understand anything about tree work i, i have taken my EL and PL to trust through people mentioning them here, i have to say they were IMO on the money and seemed to know what was what. The NFU are going down hill in my opinion.

    PL Insurance

Just a quick update, i have renewed with my El and Pl with another company and not the NFU, however they did seem keen to keep my business so i did go into negotiation with them, for this year they said they would remove the height restriction clause however next year they would impose a 20metre height restriction and should i find myself working over that i should tell them so i could have temp cover. (read so they can charge more money) I personally find this very odd also they came back with a amended premium on the pl another £230 extra. they came back to me with the amended renewal 4 days after my policy due date, when i informed them there terms of cover, and premium were somewhat lacking, and as nice as its been negotiating with them but i would not be renewing with them, they tried to charge me for cancelling the policy. a policy which i have never asked for. after a few brief and firm words they agreed not to charge me for the 4 days apparently they were on cover for me, (cover i never asked them for) not once did i say i was renewing, I raised my renewal issues with them, before the new year. and it has taken until today for them to sort anything out. i have to say the NFU seem to of lost the plot on this occassion,
  24. I think my vehicle of choice would be a fiat panda 4x4 if you can find an old one knocking around still. thats where my money would be.
