  1. Beautifull day in Oz today, high of 29 celcius low of 9 did'nt get my woolly jumper off untill about 11 am. its winter here: can get by on only 2 or 3 litres water now
  2. would'nt worry about the spiders. more likely to come accross green ants black ants and snakes:thumbup1:
  3. what might of happened to your charging system and it did to my 27 hp(on a Laski) last year is that the magnets on the stator have parted company and have distributed themselves everywhere thru out the motor this makes the motor run funny (until you get all the particles out)and it wont charge anymore
  4. i had mine lasered about 10 years ago, definatly best investment at the time.i went from needing glasses to find my glasses, not being able to recognize someone 4 feet away,to better than 20/20 vision that hasnt deteriated at all dont know how its done now,but my op was with the slice/flap
  5. if thats a hire machine you could suggest that they extend the bottom plate out about 300mm with a slight vee in it.that way you can carry logs with more weight towards the loader.Allows you to pick up more, also gives a bigger trap area infront of the plate
  6. Schaffer 2026 with turf tyres can do a donut on a golf green and do no damage except lay the grass over.the trick with a good lawn ( a rarety here) is not to drive in the same track all the time Basicly the loader will do less damage to a lawn dragging/moving brush than numerous trips done by personel my loader has 300mm wide tyres and weighs less than 1.8 tons and will quite easly float over mud which a person would sink into i used to have contractor with skidsteer and a dingo to clean up the big stuff prior to 2008 but there would always be collateral damage
  7. ive had a branch manager grapple (without a rotator) since 2008.Fantastic for feeding the chipper, loading logs end first and over the side into truck.you can place not drop logs into the truck too.also fairly handy for reaching over short fences and grabbing logs on a small loader (mines a schaffer 2026) a rotator is not needed, you soon work out how to manipulate it i did have to modify it slightly.just extended the backing plate about 200mm with a raised section in the middle .this helps trap logs and small trees and allows the operator to lever the timber up and over obstacles. also the longer plate protects the loader arms from damage when it comes to feeding a chipper no other type of attachment comes close for speed and ease of feeding.helps if you have a large chipper one drawback with no rotator is that the hoses cop a fair hiding but since 2008 ive only blown two hoses
  8. get a BMG.on a small loader having a free swinging/rotating grapple you would not believe how handy the set up is versus a fixed bucket or fork:thumbup1: also on an articulated the grapple really comes into its own:thumbup:
  9. An absolute must mind you over here you can set your terms and and more than half of my clients don't think it applies to them:thumbdown:
  10. machine i've got,a laski 27hp will fly through the wood part of the palm but then bog down on the fiberous roots .it will still grind them just have to slew slower
  11. once youve set it up a few times its easy.a few pointers.put the winches on the same side and make sure the braces are 90 degrees from the rail (when milling).if youre just cutting with the swingmill the centre brace is not required happy milling:thumbup1:
  12. i stand corrected should have said 'nearly all the articles"
  13. i subscribe to this rag (Aussie version)the whole mag is dedicated to adverts, even the articles:thumbdown:
  14. If youre a hard worker you will have no trouble getting and keeping a job
  15. if it is it could be up to seventy years old ,i suggest that it belongs on a shelf not a waist
  16. sounds like a similar story that happened to a new guy i had start 2 weeks ago. i;d pay him (your chap) for time worked only and drum in the importance of keeping hydrated and covering up in the sun. My guy lasted only 3 days(and had to go home after 3 hours on the job on the first day) then decided it was just to hard Mind you it was over 42 degrees:thumbup1: just the the other night it was still 33 degrees at 8pm
  17. very shonky contractors, any decent operator should be able to get down 12'' get your own stump grinder then you can guarantee client satisfaction most stumps i do go down a min of 12'' more often straight through the bottom and ill chase out surface roots till they are well below the surface then remove all the waste ,replace with topsoil and compact back to grade (run over with loader) bit of hand raking ,good to go
  18. Nicely overcast 34 degrees great day for working:thumbup1:
  19. you'll have to spend money.Get a loader or hiab type crane muck truck would be a good start.not that ive used one if funds stretch get a articulated loader:thumbup1:
  20. Customers who wont pay on time.Especially private clients. i hate having to ask for money,if i have to ask twice their off the list for good customers who think a quote from 6 months ago still stands:lol: and then want it done now
  21. Get them lasered best investment ive ever made.i was so blind i needed glasses to find my glasses if i took em off and forgot where they were.now have better than 20 20
  22. peterson is a kiwi made mill lucas is aussie, they also now do a 10'' mill you can double cut with a lucasmill but it is also a Pita if i want a wide board with straight edges i slab it then usually secure it to the log and cut it with the circular saw.alot of mucking about a swing mill cuts slower than a bandmill and wastes more wood however it is a versatile unit. a few years back a woodmizer was here milling African Mahogany for floorboards.as a side job he slabbed a small tree for a mate.7 slabs 5 litres of saw dust.in maybe ten minutes with my slabbing attachment we would have only got 5. if you can afford it get a bandmill preferably with hydraulics
  23. snapped 2 so far one in 1987 and 1 a year ago.Cutting down a stump so i could grind it,hit metal chain snaps and jams the bar in the cut.I undid the bar and tried to grind around it. ended up hitting it.1 rooted 36'' bar.
  24. A swing mill Lucas or Peterson cuts dimensioned timber without having to move the log I have a Lucas and it has a featherboard and slabbing attachment Not sure what the price is now but i think i paid about 16000 Aussie dollars in 2004.a lot more models avaliable now too You should be able to buy one for less than 15000 pounds i would imagine
