  1. blades dont put rakings thru them,i use a hardened blade from blakeley knives in aus, last much longer than vemeer blades and there cheaper! i get 50 hours per set if carefull and have my own jig to re sharpen
  2. i had that happen on a poinciana takedown dbh 7ft,i hit a star picket smack bang in the middle of the tree, homeowner comes out and says 'i remember putting that there 25 years ago'tree wouldn't fall over so had to hacksaw half the picket off:cussing:
  3. hi frans getting the rope guides right took a couple of goes the rhs one is good now but the left can popoff if the winch is not mounted at the right height up the tree .the winch is on a plate that slides in on the backing plate,i tend to over engineer stuff so its also bolted with two 1/2 bolts,i haven't got round to making a bollard to slide in yet.currantly just use ''portawraps''.2 ratchet straps guarrantee that the device wont go flying up the tree,as to weight haven't weighed it but its heavy alright if its a takedown 1 person can place it but 2 is needed for a prune
  4. i'd like a new 8 ton tipping truck with a knuckleboom crane on it and a schaeffer compact articulated loader. truck might have to wait but loader not
  5. heres 2 from the same job, I made it 2 years ago,and 2 jobs paid for it,proberly the best 2 grand ever spent,i wanted to put a harken 48 or 50 on it instead but the cost is huge plus its heavy enough now,on takedowns a slot is cut but on prunes that unbolts and a bit of rubber and timber sits between it and the tree
  6. ive got one on a lucas sawmill cutting edge lasts at least 5 times longer than ordinary chain, can be sharpened with a diamond file or wheel
  7. made it myself the winch is a 46 harken total cost 2000 australian dollars

  9. ive got a 4wd canter tipper, excelent for sandy verges and offroad.the low range gives you the abilty to crawl over really rough terrian,on a recent job drove 40 klms on a really crap track took 3 hours to get there for 3 hours work 3 hours back all towing a 12'' chipper average speed 13 klms hour, soul destroying
