  1. proberly not usefull information,as i'm in aus but i pay $1.25 inch for my blades
  2. Glad it worked out for you. i find that 9 out of ten clients regard kindness as a sign of weakness.constantly i get 'while you here can you just' if the client has been friendly and offered drinks whilst we have been on site i'm happy to obilige and do small jobs for free or a small consideration however most clients seem to think that while your there anyway ANY extra job will be at a small price. most seem putout when i say well that will be an extra 250,500,etc
  3. Australia's a great place,if you want a change of lifestyle and a better climate certain parts of the country would suit you.NSW and Victoria a good choice for milder weather, Queensland,Darwin And North of WA if you dont mind hotter temperatures(40 plus in the wet season now)
  4. diesel 1.66 unleaded 1.63 aussie dollars where i am for the general public,i pay 1.45 but generally spend 1000 dollars per month on diesel

    Socks

believe it or not bamboo socks
  8. is the clutch an adjustable one?i have an oguru(sp)on my laski that was not engaging correctly i was able to reticfie it with a feeler guage and a spanner. i have had some terrible dealings with my chipper dealer regarding pricing of parts, delivery of correct parts and outrageous postage charges example 2 filters sent in an airbag normal cost of postage $30,my price $190 another time they sent wrong knife bolts postage cost $160,i then send them back cost me $30 for exactly the same method of postage:thumbdown: after 3 weeks or so of follow up finally get the right bolts and a few weeks later an another postage bill of $160 told em where to shove that this is a major company that would also not send out the freight invoice at time of sending of the parts,on one occasion i got the bill 3 months later.not one other company ive done business with in 6 years has ever gone down that path. i suspect that they are only too happy to sell you a new machine but parts are too much of a hassle if you live outside of the metro area :confused1:and i live approx 3000 klms from Perth i did buy a new machine from them last year but for sure it will be the last
  9. checkout prices via the net of 'treegear' 'atraes' for climbing rigging gear etc companys that i deal with fairly regularly having not lived in england for quite some time i could'nt tell you if its more expensive or not over here
  10. id imagine that the winch is either a 40 or 46 harken
  11. about five years ago i was dropping the top out of an african mahogany when the wind blew the wrong way smashed a fence panel and remodelled (already broken)neighbours washing line easy fix on the fence but had to take the line home for a bit of welding since then nothing damaged, except myself!
  12. If you wrap a rope around the winch and lock it off you shouldnt have a problem undoing the screw/bolt
  13. bought my first saw from micheal richmond
  14. i seen a similar event about 3 years ago involving a sixty ton crane at full reach, climber puts a sling around a 45 ft leader on an african mahogany, about 2ft diameter.sling was placed 4ft (at the butt end) from where the cut was made. they were using the small hook on the crane and when the piece was cut and turned over the shock threw the big hook around the back of the boom several times:thumbdown: there was a fair amount of yelling after that from the crane operator, who proberly couldnt see much from his position we were working a couple of yards over so i had a birdseye view of the procedings:lol:
  15. i prefer machines over men any day i used to have a workers but because the work was never consistant (feast or famine)i couldnt keep them when i did have workers they would start thinking"theres a fortune in this game" and a couple of them started there own business.great. now i have a good loader, chipper and truck and do 90% of work myself ocasionally bring in a contractor.
  16. ausssies are taxed to the max, over here we have the GST,stamp duty, duty on fuel, fags, grog, property, income tax, employers must pay 9% superannuation on their employees wages before income tax comes out, the list goes on if you buy a vehicle for say 33000 plus 10% GST then youre slugged stamp duty on top of that of between 3 and 6%,sort of a double tax every year you pay on average 650 for registration,(mot)fees are also different in every state Property attracts the same tax the higher the price the more the stamp duty on a 500000 house you could pay 30000 on top its a fairly complicated system and a tax issue is one of the major reasons that just got the pm sacked by his own party recently
  17. ive been caught a few times, one memorable occasion when i had dumped of a load of firewood at a clients home when they wernt there, after a couple of weeks we went back for the money, drove up the driveway only to see the guy jump over his back fence and leg it,unbelievable.never did get the dough and the wood had gone by then even now when i invoice private clients with the words due on reicept some of them still think they are entitled to a line of credit:thumbdown:
  18. toyota hj47,1983 model, ultra reliable, not fantastic for long haul trips though. 4wd mitsubishi canter, excellent offroad, crap legal payload though current vehicle of choice is a 6 ton mitsubishi tipper,24 litre to a hundred klms drive all day in comfort if you have to,a good workhorse all round
  19. you must have got lemons:001_tongue:
  20. has to be the way the machine is set up,design error maybe.I have 2 vermeer chippers and have never had a overheating issue, and its a darn sight hotter here:001_smile:
  21. what about nifty,they do a 21 metre version
  22. i had it done 7 years ago,i have 20/20 vision now but prior couldnt see much without glasses which were costing me about $1000 per year the op cost $2000 per eye,at the time they advised that i would have to put in eye drops every few hours for about 3 weeks but in reality it was proberly 2 months before i got tears back best personal investment i reckon
