  1. Hi Nick, Are you on Greenteeth or the revolution wheel? Cheers
  2. I tried to talk to the owner about it but my French was as bad as his English.
  3. I saw this bad boy in the Alps a couple of months ago. Only just found the picture again.
  4. Dean, Did you read Stumpy stu's article on his website? Specifically the one dated 1st May 2013. Jonathan
  5. There are several of these little things on the shogun, I assume they are all roughly the same part, just some do the locking hubs and the varying 4x4 modes. My local garage tested, examined and fitted a new one for about £40 (which was the cost of the part only). They would not let me pay any labour because it only took about 15 mins. Though I gather 5 are easy to get to and the 6th on top of the transfer case requires the removal if the centre console and possibly one of the seats. Another thing, it is not the end of the world if you have the flashing. As long as it is just an actuator then you can carry on driving as you want with the flashing on. No imminent danger of damage, as I was told by the mitsi mechanic.
  6. In reply to everyone who has PMd me so far. I have no idea what it is worth, so let me know what you think? I will be back at the yard on wednesday, maybe tomorrow and will get a few more photos then, especially of the 1st stem, this appears to me to be sound and is a lovely dark colour all the way through. Diameter at the base of both trees is probably just shy of 3ft. Though I have not measured it. Any of it can be milled on site, no issue there. Also, I have done none of the cutting so far, I have just been asked for a price extract the timber and grind the remaining stumps so they can replant. r.e haulage, I would rather not get involved hauling the timber anywhere, however I am sure I could arrange something depending on the value to someone.
  7. Walnut, Northamptonshire. [/img] [/img] Sorry for the massive photos. The 1st appears to be sound all the way through The second is rotten in the butt, but the majority of the limbs appear pretty good. Please PM me if you are interested before it gets cut up for firewood
  8. Have you re-tensioned them TY? I did on mine, Bandit though not a HB20. I calipered the bolts on the housings to get the belt tension correct, this is not right. You need to string or rule the pulleys so they are aligned. oooops Not had a problem since I did that. The belts I have on mine now are dunlop and they are 5 singles, rather than one piece.
  9. Depends what you are towing with? I think my Disco3 had a max nose weight on the ball of 250kg because of the self leveling air suspension.
  10. I can only assume anyone who does not like the American pick ups has never driven one. They are ugly, the interiors are cheap, they wallow around a bit on the road. But they are very good at what they were designed for. Big heavy lumps and they tow very well, I only have experience of the small and big block V8, petrol autos and they tow effortlessly in comparison to almost anything on the UK market. Though it depends on what you are towing, if you want to tow a little chipper it makes no difference. If you are regularly at 3.5 ton and tow any kind of distance then they just make life so easy. You don't have to worry about being pushed about all the time not having to change gear is also a massive bonus. Also the worries over fuel consumption are rubbish. Any vehicle with a heavy trailer on is doing 15mpg (Defender, Discovery, Shogun, L200, Patrol, Trooper all of which I have either owned or driven regularly). Of course if you take the trailer off a V8 you will still do 15mpg! EDIT: There are loads of places that specialise in servicing them. They are pretty simple, very little electrics and from my experience very reliable unless they are running lpg
  11. Find a Contractor - Search for NAAC members near you
  12. I regularly used to go from 6th low to 3rd high at about 30mph. In both a Defender and Discovery 3 when towing heavy weights. No knocks, no bangs, no damage. Just got to double de- clutch and time it properly. Obviously you just pull the lever in the Disco which is a bit easier.
  13. You are right, sort of! If you finance, hire purchase (not contract hire, lease hire) you or the finance company receive an invoice for the full invoice price. When you give this to your accountant it makes no difference whether you have financed the item or paid cash. A 20,000 + VAT chipper goes through the same regardless. If you pay VAT on your monthly bills (Contract hire or lease hire) then the invoices go through individually so each month invoices are separate. There might be specific reasons why one is better then the others for you situation.
  14. I have heard about variable rate finance, but this was a LOOOOOOOONG time ago and I don't think anyone offers it any more (or if it is even legal to sell)
  15. Not sure if this has been posted, but there is a built one for sale over the water, looks pretty cool. I dont know if this is specced at the updated 3.5ton towing. 2013 Isuzu D-MAX TIPPER 4X4, Price: €25,830 2.5 Diesel for sale in Dublin on CarsIreland.ie
  16. I doesn't, just a hunch that he did not get up one morning and think "I am going to cut that down" watch numerous youtube videos, go shopping and have it down by lunch. The fact he is still alive suggests to me he actually did a fair amount of research and used equipment that was fit for purpose. A bit of luck may have helped to.
  17. I was impressed. He obviously spent a fair amount of time, effort and money to to purchase the kit and learn roughly what he needed to do. Of course he could have paid someone to knock it over in a couple of hours instead of spending weeks messing about. A bit rough around the edges but A* for commitment.
  18. Yes, American. No, Schliesing are the most expensive chippers on the market (inch per inch, in the UK) All chippers of that size you want cost about the same to run per m3 chipped.
  19. I hate those softwoods like Willow and Popular!
  20. Derail, Fake 50s are very rare, because everyone checks them. Mostly fake 20s as you can buy something cheap and get a real 10 and 5 back in change. A lot of it happens at festivals and in clubs where lots of cash is changing hands and the staff are in a rush. Also you should be able to feel if the note is wrong, you can tell as you count them.
  21. I believe they are rebranded woodsman.
  22. Reaper/Slingshot (Glyphosate 360 g/L SL) 20L | eBay This is a pretty good price, presumably that is inclusive of VAT. I normally pay 70+ VAT for 20l whatever Glyphosate 360 product the local supplier has on the shelf. I have used 4 or 5 different ones and have never noticed a difference.
  23. Surely it is vapor lock? You need some avgas "Avgas has a lower and more uniform vapor pressure than automotive gasoline so it remains in the liquid state despite the reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude, thus preventing vapor lock." Taken from wikipedia
  24. I have roughly £5-6k in stihl products, I use them all for my business. Just ordered my usual load of bits, filters, chains, bars, blades, files etc etc on ebay and mister solutions. The two local Stihl dealers to me (both within 10 miles) are idiots. I wouldn't let them fit a new handle to a rake. If stihl don't fix this I will not buy any thing else from them. It would be very simple. If you have an account with a shop and you are a business, then you can have products delivered. Everyone else has to stick to the policy. Does Stihl America have the same policy?
