  1. I'm liking the steins, couldn't justify the stretch airs
  2. Brand new car - I told you it would be less than a month before you went and got one!!
  3. From what I can see you need to increase your prices as per inflation to stay static. If you want to increase your profits (and earn more in the real world) either increase your rates above inflation or increase your rates the same rate as inflation and sell more loads or leave your prices the same and need to sell loads and loads more than last year. Example 2010 you sold 200 loads at £200 per load and each load cost you £100 to take from cord to delivered (cord, depreciation, etc included - not wage) £40,000 turn over, £20,000 profit/wage 2011 Option 1 - You sell 200 loads at £200 per load but each load cost you £110 to do Still £40,000 turn over but only £18,000 profit/wage That £18,000 still has to pay your weekly shop (which has gone up 10% in the last year) and fill your car with petrol which has also gone up. You are worse off than last year. Option 2 - You increase your price by £10 per load to cover the increase in costs and your turn over is £42,000 and profit is back to £20,000. You are still worse off than last year as your cost of living has gone up by 10% Option 3 - You increase your 2010 price by £20 per load. Your turn over is £44,000 and profit/wage is £22,000. You are now in the same position as you were in 2010 - a static business. Option 4 - Work harder. You increase your 2010 price by £20 per load and sell 250 loads. Your cost per load is still £110. You turn over £55,000, your wage/profit is £27,500. Happy days a growing business Option 5 - Work smarter. You still sell 200 loads at your 2011 price of £220 per load but managed to hold your manufacturing cost (cheaper cord or multi drops so use less diesel, etc) to £100. You turn over £44,000 your wage/profit is £24,000. Happy days but you can only go so far with this before you need to sell more loads to make more profit Option 6 - If you have been selling out every year increase your price to £250 per load. Cost per load is £110 You turn over £50,000, your wage/profit is £28,000 Or even better combine 4,5 and 6
  4. Beaten to it. Is there a C1 test for post '97 license or is entitlement granted when car test is passed?
  5. You need +E in one form or another to tow anything over 750kg. If you do C+E (old class 1) then you do not need to do B+E but if you just do C (old class 2) that does not entitle you to tow your big chipper or trailer with anything. Also B+E then C does not mean you can tow a big trailer with a class 2 truck (>7.5 tonne). I don't think you need an extra test to drive up to 7.5 tonne +750kg trailer even on a post '97 license, but I could be wrong with the last bit
  6. This is the one I have got, paid about £600 for it delivered last year THE HANDY-PRO THPLS7TP HEAVY DUTY PETROL LOG SPLITTER
  7. The warranty will probably be a lot less for pro users. I think mine says 60 days pro, 12 months home use.
  8. I've had the same machine for the last 12 months and it's earnt it's money doing 80+ cube. It's starting to show some areas of weakness/wear (e.g. handle pivot points) but that will be very easy to sort out. It's cycle time isn't as fast as some of the proper pro machines and it does get stuck on some of the real knotty stuff but then you are looking at spending £600 not £2k+. Look hard on the net for prices, there is also an identical machine done in green and marketted by someone else.
  9. I prefer my customers to pay by direct bank transfer as it saves me the time and hassle of going to the bank and paying it in then waiting for it to clear. It therefore costs me less. Can I ask why you don't pay by DD?
  10. I have a 2010 200T and a 2011 201T, when I buy again it will be a 200T. I am sure it doesn't run for as long on a tank of fuel, yes I know it's a smaller tank but it is meant to be more efficient to counter that. The chain is either running or stopped, you can't seem to feather it and have the chain moving slowly for that fine cutting The spring antivibe has got caught on stuff It's £80ish more expensive
  11. some links PETZL OUISTITI - venturesport.co.uk Petzl Simba Childrens Harness - childrens climbing harness|Gear Zone shows the one I got but not a UK supplier Petzl Ouistiti Full Body Climbing Harness - Kids' from Backcountry.com
  12. Petzl do a full body harness for kids. I have one for my 4 year old (label says age 4-12) and they are really good. I looked on ebay for a while and they were doing about £25-30 by the time you include delivery. I searched for the name (which escapes me at the minute) and got one for £37.00 delivered brand new. I wouldn't buy second hand PPE for myself so don't see why I should for the kids.
  13. I'd agree that it's a king cab, looks to have a rotary beacon on the roof. Like Stevie says a rare truck
  14. I sold quite a few of these last year. They cost me £75 to buy from a local saw mill built to my spec. Most are 3ft wide, 2ft deep and 6 ft high. They are 1 cubic meter and will nearly hold 2 loose filled builders bags of logs when well stacked. They are not flat packed and would be quite a bit more to buy/make if they were and because the panels are bigger than a standard pallet would not be cheap to courier anywhere.
  15. My father in law has an 03 one and has had it from new. He has literally knocked the hell out of it, there isn't a straight panel on it and its service history will be in frequent at it's best. He has used it for towing all sorts, carried the dogs shooting, off roaded the wheels off it and it keeps coming back for more. It won't be worth much to sell on but everything still works and it keeps coming back for more. It is as good as a disco, trooper, etc but is no Defender.
  16. Had my cut and climb on for the last 2 days in torential rain, it wasn't allowed to dry on wednesday night instead it was left in the van in a heap. Even after that my t shirt has been bone dry both days. Best waterproof I have owned
  17. Morrisons wouldn't let me fill jerry cans this morning either. They have had a UK wide e-mail stating only motor vehicles to be filled. They took some convincing to let me fill the chipper even when I am on first name terms with most of the staff there and a regular visitor. Not sure what I do when the mix can and grinder are out of fuel
  18. They pay a variable amount depending on your distance from the chips final destination and the quality of your chip
  19. I won't buy from people selling saws out of there bedrooms etc to keep prices down as that is unfair. However in the above example, both suppliers have shops, staff, insurance, etc all probably comparable and I am sure Justin isn't just selling saws because he likes the smell of 2 stroke - he will be making a profit. Is selling 1 saw a day and making £150 profit better than selling 20 saws in the same day making £10 per saw profit. Who is going to have the bigger happier customer base? Comparing the hedge job, if both parties had the proper quals, insurance, etc, etc then if I am being undercut by someone travelling 100 miles to do it then either they are willing to work for no profit, I am too expensive (greedy??) or they are much more efficient and can therefore do lots more in the day than I can. Taking 1/2 the profit from a job but doing 3 times as much in a day still results in bigger profits overall.
  20. Only the shower gel apparantly but I have to agree it does work
  21. something just under your belly button to play with when times are quiet?
  22. You can write to state that you are in charge of a crew who would not be able to work if you had to do jury duty. You need to prove that no one could act up within the company and more than you would suffer financial hardship
