I've turned up to do a couple of Picus tests now where I was greeted with an hours worth of Ivy stripping I wasn't informed about, or other obstacles that make it impossible to get around the tree. If someone isn't familiar with the process then they could easily overlook something, like the tree being flush against a wall for example.

I don’t believe so. You are limited by the amount of sensors you have but even then you can set them up in different configurations. I’m not sure if readings become less accurate the further the sound waves have to travel though. Good question

Did the Beech tree Picus test yesterday. It appears to have what looks like an old graft wound round the base but I’m not entirely convinced. Any suggestions as to what else it might be?

I carried out a Picus test yesterday on a mature Beech tree with a large Ganoderma bracket. The tree was previously tested 6 years ago and the client wanted to know if the decay has progressed. Interested to view the results of the tests together. You can see the area covered by the decay hasn't extended by a great margin, however the decay has increased significantly in the already affected area. This first test was carried out November 2013 Second test, July 2019 The tree has been regularly reduced in light of the decay present. With the ongoing maintenance of the tree along with a significant buttress root formation I believe this tree can continue to stand for a few more years to come as yet. People moan about them but I actually used to enjoy working on them. Love how big tops glide to the floor horizontally. Can be a pain to get up if not wearing spikes though.

I can attest to that. I've put on quite a few pounds since stopping work, whereas I never carried an ounce of fat previously. Its not a good look

Its an epidemic! I remember when i first went to America some 21 years ago the first thing that struck me was how many overweight people there were. Now, its basically not much different in the UK
