Did you know that 4 in 10 arborists are struggling to hire arboriculturalists according to a new UK Government report? More than 40 per cent said that there are simply not enough people applying for jobs. This shortage of workers is placing pressure on arborists and making it difficult for them to maintain and grow their business. But why does this shortage exist? It’s not because of a lack of workers in the UK. In fact, there are millions of people who are underemployed (unable to find full-time work or jobs that make full use of their abilities) and more than 20% of UK employees earn less than a Living Wage. At Yuno, we believe the answer lies in a knowledge gap. When we asked arborists recently why they thought people weren’t applying they said “many people simply don’t know that this industry and these jobs exist!”. And when we asked people affected by underemployment about their situation they said, “I don’t know what to do, I’m not sure what options are out there”. We are working to bridge this knowledge gap through the Yuno app. The app tests potential employee’s attitude and aptitude based on their personality, interests, and values. These results are then compared with employers and if there is a match, we facilitate a connection. The Yuno app will help arborists access a bigger pool of workers and crucially will help them find workers who are a good team fit which will reduce the chance of them leaving after learning arboriculturist skills. It’s a bit like when a team member refers one of their friends!
